Do cars cause "A difference of opinion" in your house ?
Discussion
My missus hates my passion for cars and tries to stifle it whenever possible, she doesn't want any upheaval, agro or expense, there is a certain hypocrisy in that she bought a Fiat 500 which muggins gets to work on all the time, but thats for me to sort out !
I suggest certain cars and if she doesn't tell me to shut up about bloody cars she will say either nobheads car, girls car, horrible or embarrassing.
Do any of you get this of your partner ?

Pretty much every close member of my family say all the stereotypical non PH quotes "a car is for getting you from A to B", "I don't know why you want something fast you can only do 70"... Last week my dad told me to stop buying "stupid" cars and get something good, so I played the trick of, well what would you think to me getting a Audi A3 1.6 on about a 56 plate? He said, yes thats perfect tget something like that... I walked away
My dad hates the idea of me driving anything fast, My mum and my sister want a happy balance between sensible and fast, and my dad doesn't give a flying toss as to how quick it is, he just doesn't want to spend money on petrol.
I'm using that as the reason i don't go and visit them anymore.

Change your missus.I suggest certain cars and if she doesn't tell me to shut up about bloody cars she will say either nobheads car, girls car, horrible or embarrassing.
Try a 'what missus' thread in the lounge.
My missus just does not understand why anyone would want to buy an expensive car. She was against me buying my current Jag XF and is opposed to shelling out any money so we can jointly buy a Vantage. Oh but she's more than happy for me to buy it with my money so she can drive it too, she just doesn't want to spend any money on it...
Guess what, honey...?
Guess what, honey...?
Not necessarily the individual cars I buy, but modifiying is a sore subject.
Everyone thinks it's a waste of time and money, and that I'm not 17 anymore.
I'm starting to agree with it though, quite often you look like an absoilute prick in a modified car unless it's something special, and even then I'm starting to think that if you want a car that is a certain way then you should buy one already like that, or just make do.

There's two opinions towards cars in my family, and with my OH. There's the wrong opinions, and my opinion. Any differences get ignored by all parties, perhaps aside of the OH who is resigned to just putting up with it. I've already told her that when the time comes to replace her trusty Kia childmover that she'll be getting a Hummer or something equally stupid

Guess I'm lucky... my missus is a bit of a petrol head. Her dream (when we've won the lottery) is to restore a MK2 Jag.
Mind you, she did throw up after 3 cans of cider last night, so I guess you can't have it all.
Bless 'er!
Sounds perfect. Don't have to buy her lots of drinks on a night out Mind you, she did throw up after 3 cans of cider last night, so I guess you can't have it all.

My parents are fine with nice cars, and realise that cheap cars can actually be reliable.
A fair few of my friends don't understand it though, and think that "you get what you pay for when it comes to cars". In that case, why has my £800 ST24 not broken down after 13 years and 105k? And one of their mother's diesel cars has just had the bottom end seized thanks to the DPF, on an 06 plate car with 60k on it?
Madness

Hey J4CKO, do you think it is the financial aspect of being a petrolhead? I nearly posted on a forum I frequent for every seller to stop me buying little bits and bobs this month as I have spent a wad since the start of the month!!I suggest certain cars and if she doesn't tell me to shut up about bloody cars she will say either nobheads car, girls car, horrible or embarrassing.

I live in a car house hold so everyone talks cars and understands them. I don't know why you bother discussing it, if you want the car and can afford it then just buy it...
Because in a normal stable relationship, people often talk about such minor, inconsequential things as a £70k car purchase...My missis doesn't like driving... So decided her Mini Cooper S was the sensible choice for her 3 minute WALK to work.
Whereas the idea of commuting 34 miles each way is beyond her. But thinks it's sensible to have purchased a diesel. I have an MKIV Golf R32. So proves her extent of car knowledge.
... I have no interest in shoes and dresses, suits me fine.
