Only in so much as I would rather have a Ferrari 458 and she would rather have an Aston Martin Vantage smile

Mother wants me to get something more comfy.

Father wants me to get something new/newer and with 5 doors (saloon).

Brother is one of these new big turbo diesel advocates.

Me - I dont require a diesel as I dont do the miles, and even without a diesel I can still get 40-45MPG when driving sensibly.

I wouldnt actually mind something a bit more comfy as the potholes are terrible and is making me, at 21 years of age, get a bad back. But that often also means sacrificing the handling of the car... I like cars which can turn corners.

A big fat 5 door saloon. Where do I start? I'm still young and would quite like to try my hand at a few hot hatches and coupes. I cant afford a new big 5 door car. I dont particularly like many saloons, and I wont spend my money on something I dont like. I dont require a big car most of the time. So quite pointless for me, I'll be subjected to a big car I do not use enough, wasting petrol lugging around a heavy car, not enjoying my drive and probably paying through the roof for insurance.

With her its the upheaval, the agro and the financial side but I am not talking lots of money, just bored with my car, I cycle most days as to be honest I need the exercise. I think she worries it will break but like I said I hardly use it and I am reasonably competent with the spanners. We had a difference of opinion over a past car which I made a point of getting against her will which went a bit wrong and I lost 2 grand, to be fair it was the 2 grand profit I made on the previous car. I earn the money and have payed for pretty much everything for a long time, she seemed to be getting more amenable but just tells me to shut up and that its boring !

I have spent a lot of time on her Fiat, just done an engine rebuild so I think she owes me some leeway, seeing as she has two cars.
Am I alone in not understanding this relationship in any way?

My missus is a bit of a petrol head too. She'll drive whatever she wants from 'the fleet'. That usually means the one with the most petrol in it. And therein lies the root of our difference of opinion.

My girlfriend didn't understand much about cars. But she's trying to learn because she can see that it means a lot to me, and the fact she's trying to learn makes her a "keeper" in my book.

She tolerated my attempts at teaching her to parallel park pretty well... hehe She's actually very good now, fair play.

She's also only one of a handful of people I'd give my car keys to and drive me around. smile

I'm very fortunate that my other half likes cars and encourages my indulgence. We currently have two issues:

- She believes I should've bought a TVR instead of a Lotus.
- At Cholmondeley on Sunday she said she would prefer an Anniversary (read vulgar) Countach over a Miura.

So not perfect but she's a pretty quick kart driver and she thinks my dad's Vantage is the best thing since sliced bread. We're getting there with her...

It's all a LIE !!!!

Wait until you've been married 21 years and have 2 kids and have just had the snip.

She will inform you that she was never interested in any of your hobbies or interests, but knew you were a nice person.

My wife, oh bless her, recently did just that. Never actually interested in anything I hold dear.

Climbing, Cycling, Camping, Cars, Motorbikes, Fixing said cars, driving, motorsport of any description, gardening (I have a passing interest in growing Tomotoes)

Apparently she likes expensive hotels, and large expensive high street fashion, (House of Fraser springs to mind)watching gymnastics.

And when you think you've got agreement to go and spend £5K on an alfa, do it quickly, because she'll change her mind just like that. (based on a passing comment from her 19 year old niece FFS)

Bitter ? oh maybe.

Introducing her to a 2 litre turbo after her 1.4 helps discussions. smile

These threads always amaze me. Why do people marry/go out with people who don't share their interests, passions, and beliefs?

My wife is as much of a petrolhead as I am - we always fight for the keys, and she's owned everything from mx5's to V8 TVR's, and shares our V10 M6.

I want a classic of some sort when i learn to drive, whilst my brother says that his car would be much better for a first car (Nissan Micra 1.0L) so theres always talks about whos going to look better and who wouldnt look like an 80 year old lesbian and all those kind of things. My dad likes the idea of me getting a classic though, whilst my mum cant seem to understand which cars are classics.

To be fair, quite a number of petrolheads can't agree on which cars are classics. smile

Sir, I salute your taste.

Ah, a time when Aston's were cool... and football players hadn't tainted the brand.
Serious question as I'm honestly trying to understand the thought process: why the apostrophe on the end of 'Aston' and none on the end of 'player'?

We share a similar belief system.

Everything else is just stuff.

told my then gf (now SHMBO) that I wanted a Caterham 7 24 years ago. Once we got maried she started a fund (i.e shyphoned - SP!) off funds to buy a kit. When we eventually realised that I had niether the time or funds we bought an MGB Roadster. 15 years later she still realised I wanted a 7 and said "sell the B" & buy a bloody 7" 4 years later I am the very hapy owner of a Super Sprint. She noe also has a MX5 - which I seem to drive most of the timesmile
