We went to Knowsley Safari Park around 1971 when it first opened. They had a lovely brochure but they clearly hadn't checked it because there was a nice photo of a baboon sitting on a car and the family smiling but they missed the big monkey poo on the roof.

I remember, as a kid, way back in the early '80s watching a Blair Drummond Safari Park monkey sat on the roof of a Capri with a vinyl roof gently peeling back the vinyl more and more as the car cruised round the enclosure.

It was doing it so slowly the folk in the car were oblivious.

Great thread - loving the pics!

A few years ago I went through knowsley in an Impreza STi fitted with Blitz exhaust which made the car sound like a helicopter. To start off with a Lion took offence & started clawing at a front wheel, which was scary to say the least In the end a warden spotted what was going on & ushered the lion away in his defender.

Then on to the monkey enclosure when everything seemed to be going ok, apart from the car attracting more than it's fair share of monkeys. That's until I noticed a few people going past with shocked faces pointing frantically at the back of the car. Once pulled over in the car park I had a look & it appears the monkeys were quite partial to the taste of my rear spoiler & had proceeded to bite a sizeable chunk out of it

I never did get the spoiler replaced & when I advertised the car & listed it's faults "some damage to rear spoiler caused by hungry monkey" was one of them

Frankly, i'd still rather drive my car through the monkey enclosure than one of those "Drive through" service places that seem to be springing up everywhere.......... (at least the real monkeys take some pride in their work )
