i'm looking for a very cheap run around for a few months use, and today i went to look at a peugeot 205, that was up for sale with 8 months M.O.T., the dealer said it had a bit of rust, but with the price bracket i'm looking at, i expect rust

what i don't expect is this, i don't even know if he can legaly sell it like that, i think if the police saw you driving it, they would impound it

gaffer tape would make that legal i believe but yes, if I went to see that and they'd said 'some rust' I wouldn't be happy......

Can't see the pics but a rusty 205 is never a good sign.

They were pretty well galvansied so major rust means its got 'history'.

OK so it's misdescribed, but if it runs well and he wants £150 for it then get a £20 wing from the scrappy and Ian's your Aunties boyfriend.

If he wants £500 for it, it's a different story.

There are many, many cheap runabouts for that or less that aren't in a state like that.

There are 5 car brands i have promised i will never buy.
Pugs, Fiats, Citroens, Renaults and Land Rovers.
Especially so with an older car. Reliability, innit?

I have come across numerous high milage Pugs and Citroens (Dad's ZX had 200,000+ miles on the clock when he got rid) and Landrovers?? There are many of them 30+years old still in daily use and reliable.

That is terrible, but you could always use it as a bargaining chip and demand the dealer stuff it full of chicken wire and lumpy Isopon.

After which £495 for a K-reg 205 is a GREAT DEAL!

As someone said, 205s were galvanised and they don't do that UNLESS they've been abused/damaged/worse.

My 405 is only 2 years younger than that 205 and it has a bit of spotty rust (mostly door edges, around the bumpers and around some damage on one rear door) but nothing remotely - not even in the same stratosphere - as that mess.

It's not true to says there's loads of cars that cheap tho - when 12 months Tax is over £200, an MOT is worth a couple of hundred, the car is £150+ on the scrap scales and the petrol in the tank may be worth £50, it's hard to find 'cheap' cars anymore...

£700 is really the starting point for an honest, no-major-faults, 4 good tyres and an exhaust which isn't a sieve, 12 months T&T car these days - anything cheaper will have 'issues' (as will some cars which cost more, of course!!) smile

Lighter than a carbon fibre panel that..

But in all seriousness that is pretty shocking!

To be fair, if the sort of dealer that sells that caliber of vehicle told me a car had 'a bit of rust', I'd expect to turn up and find something that looked like a salvaged section of the Titanic. A dangerous MOT failure would be a pleasant surprise.

I'd want £100 to take it away, driving through my local trading estate today I spotted many many cars available for £500 or so, and not one was in that state, there was some some good banger fodder there.
