From what i remember, she got the backing from some of the Dragons in the Den in the early days.
You have a bad memory. She simply used it as free pubilicy, spoofed the figures and turned down their offer.

From what I remember, she didn't, but they liked her (I may be wrong... haven't seen a repeat on Dave/Watch this month to remind me). The PR coverage was epic though, which is why a lot of people go into the Den, win or lose, I assume smile

Er eh?

Avis car will not be brand spankers, just spanked.
I've hired from them twice, both cars had under 500 miles on the clock.

Just a hire car, just like a lease car is.
The lease cars will come with delivery miles (mine all with less than 20 as it happens).

The hire car accumulates every time it is hired so when it's a few months old it'll have a far old chunk on it, unless you hire it when the fleet is changed and get a new one.

Yes lease is not totally dissimilar to hire but one car will definitely be new, the other probably won't.

Is it wrong if I thought Ling was male?

Also is it her gimmick to have a ridiculously obscene website?

Yep that's her gimmick.

The shocking thing is that her website actually is much clearer, easier to use and more informative than a lot of car leasing websites.

If you ignore the daft stuff you can drill straight down to find the exact cost of the car and model you want fairly easily. Lots of sites make it very difficult and many insist on you sending an enquiry form and getting a phone quote.

Also Lings is one of the only sites I've found to list everything including VAT for personal customers.

I sound like an advert but just saying what I see smile

Except with a hire car you get the base model of whatever car you choose. With a lease car, you get to choose the Spec, the colour, the options. And you get to keep it for x amount of time and use it as your own.

I must admit it's pretty easy to navigate and all the information is there. But if I had just happened upon the site while looking for leasing websites I'd probably glance over it thinking I'd accidentally come across a Geocities site from the late 90's.

Along with Broadspeed and Autoquake (when it was alive) Ling's is probably one of a handful of car sites I'd feel 100% with using repeatedly.

I admire what she's built greatly and I hope she doesn't suffer too much with this stinking recession.

What's the catch compared to HP or PCP, just that you never own the car outright and can't buy it for a final settlement at the end? I take it there are big penalty charges for ending contracts early etc? Seems like an affordable way of having a new car to me if it's all legit.

Luke.
