Here comes a surprise response from me folks.......
M6.
Smidge under £30k got us a late 56 car with only 25,000 miles on the clock, full AUC BMW warranty, and a car that is capable of over 200mph, that can happily potter to the shops as soon as go round a track.
Delighted with it. Nice and rare too, compared to the M5, or 911's.

I was going to suggest an AMG Merc but that's likely to go into the £000's for servicing, In my opinion I would certainly suggest a 911, drive one and tell me you wouldn't seriously consider one.
Is an AMG dearer to service/run than a 911? A friend has had two 911s and a Boxster S and always seems to leave the OPC with a bill of between £750 and £1500!My suggestions are however Porsche 911 and Mercedes SL55, the latter for the benefits of hard top & top down motoring and THAT noise.

I'm not dening the fact that the AMG is a nice car, out of the two for sound the Merc will always win, the Merc may be cheaper to buy I'd just factor in the higher running cost. Plus with the roof down on a 911, the noise is pretty nice
