Lotus Evoras For Italian Carabinieri

There's going to be some faces of thunder in Modena when they hear about this one...

'Just don't tell Ferrari, all right?'
'Just don't tell Ferrari, all right?'
The Italian Carabinieri have just taken on a pair of Lotus Evora S models. The cars will undertake a two-year 'tour of duty' with the division of the Italian army (which plays a similar role in Italy to Scotland Yard in the UK), working in and around Rome and Milan.

According to the Lotus press release, Colonel Marco Minicucci of the Carabinieri said: "Our special Lotus Evoras combine the very best of our technology with excellent British engineering from Lotus."

They've also been equipped with trick voice recognition technology and a portable refrigeration compartment has been fitted behind the front seats, which will allow for the rapid transport of vital organs and blood required during medical emergencies.

We suppose it's quite a coup, really, as it's not as though the Italians don't have a few fast car manufacturers on their own doorsteps...

(And would it be cruel of us to suggest that Lotus needs to do everything it can to get Evoras out the door?)

I'd read somewhere that Evora sales had doubled. This explains it.

Hmmm

I wonder if Lotus would like to lend me an Evora for a couple of years to promote my European Tours and UK Management Training Businesses. I wonder how much the Carbineri paid for them (am I a cynic?)

I still think the Evora looks awkward in pictures, but having seen a few in the metal now it's growing on me.

They have a red one in Phipps Mall in Atlanta that even has the old style single-din radio in it!

I bet the Carabinieri that get to drive these will still wish they had the Gallardo's that the police got for the same purpose.

Is it really necessary for PH to write snide crap like this? Why can;t you just report the story instead of being smug about it and fuel the army of Lotus haters that plague every Evora thread? Is this Top Gear magazine all of a sudden? Is there any need for implications of shoddy engineering and poor sales, neither of which are relevant or based on anything but prejudice?

I used to expect better from PH. You are not Clarkson and all the better for it. If you pepper articles with inane snide prejudice that doesn't relate to the subject matter then where will we go for adult motoring news?

Next week on PH!

XKR-S takes 9 minutes to do the ring! TVR's smell of glue!

Tell you what you could hire Chris Harris to write blogs about how he is better than everyone else and include the words "911 GT3RS" in every review, even of a van.

On re-reading the article, cathalm makes some valid points in my opinion. There's funny, then there's a bit nasty.

yes I agree a bit or though with less force perhaps, (I really appreciate the website having been abroad for 4 years) BUT Lotus engineering revolutionised F1, and Lotus are as important as any of the big names in F1. In the 90s the Elise forced the Italians to up the handling ability of their cars, the Elise was the best handling car of its era, some engineering achievement. I still haven't got over the 12c trashing yet and now this...omg don't you dare put a Rover shed on tomorrow please.

Oh come, on! This is a piece of marketing puff and very little more! And I did say forgive me for the stereotyping. smile

I'm only intending to have a relatively gentle tongue-in-cheek dig at the marketing behind this (apart from the last comment in brackets - which is a little cruel, on reflection).

For what it's worth, on a personal level Lotus are one of my favourite marques...

"please forgive us for playing up to certain stereotypes"

No, I won't forgive you actually.

Come on chaps, this is pretty pathetic. It's not even funny. It's lame. Hell, it's not even accurate anymore. This is from the same school of humour that includes jokes about Skoda's.

PH is a part of a major , professional publishing house. You must do better than this...

Treat us with some intelligence please.

I thought it was quite funny. Some Lotus-loving peeps need to cheer up and chill out a little.

Good move by Lotus - worth the spend for the marketing coverage alone.

Bahar isn't Italian, he was born in Instanbul. But carry on PH, you're doing a marvellous job with this article.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about... Fair article. Cathalm clearly has had a bad day and takes things FAR too seriously

Or am I not taking it seriously enough???
