Audi A8 now out the equation, Suppose ANOTHER what car?
Discussion
I have upto £6000 burning a hole, I would prefer one of the 3 Germans if possible.
I only do about 5,000 miles a year and 4000 of those would be motorway, so really i shouldn't push it to anything near breaking point haha.
I thought about something like a 2003 E class, but i hear Mercedes in general were awful up til about 2006.
Anything else worth looking at? no more than say 90k miles, as reliable as possible although the 3 Germans never seem to be!
I have an e39 528i sport so I obviously won't be looking at them.

I've had quite a few older barges but have no experience of the later X350 Jags you ask of. I joined here when I bought an old XJR6 - which I didn't have long but kept the name.
Anyway, was always 'meh' about Lexus, got one (again an older 400), and they just work.
When you've buying something 90%+ depreciated, reliablility has to be top of the list. As it happens, build quality, ride quality, performance, toys and comfort just happen to be top of the pile too.

Curious, but is there are reason to why the 3 Germans?I only do about 5,000 miles a year and 4000 of those would be motorway, so really i shouldn't push it to anything near breaking point haha.

Think I'd be looking at a Jag myself. I do like Lexus, but they've all looked a bit minging since the original LS400.
A UK spec RHD 4.6 V8 Caddy STS Seville would prove the left field choice.
There shouldn't be corrosion issues with an X350, as it's mostly aluminium.
Your budget would get a fully loaded 4.2 V8, which would be lovely, and possibly an 'R' too.
If mpg is an issue, the 3.0ltr V6 is an option.

I don't know really, with regards to BM, Merc and AUdi
I like Jags but just dont associate them with reliablity. As said above, at a car around 2003, 80k on the clock and for £6k, reliability is surely the most important thing.
Does the fact i do only 5000 miles a year not give me a better chance of avoiding major issues?

Volvo interior bore the hell out of me, As would Audi A3 and A4.
2003 Merc E class interiors look ahead of their time, as did the A8's.

Perhaps forgive the 'bland' interior for the engine...
