Stick with my E90 or swap to an R32?
Discussion
Evening,
I'm a bit bored , I currently run a very nice E90 325i M Sport with a couple of options on it, I've had it nearly 2 years and to be quite frank I've really enjoyed owning it. I don't do many miles, around 8000 per year so it never feels like I live in it and always feels quite special.
However I've always had my eye on the MK 5 R32, it's just one of those cars that I really like the look / idea of. I've enquired about a couple in the past week and am giving it a fair bit of thought.
There is just a part of me that says it might be a bit of a backwards step.
Any thoughts / experience appreciated.

Not driven either, but I don't think you would regret it if you did swap.
The R32 sparks me as having more sense of occasion, especially if only doing 8k a year.
The 325 is a little dull as you've gathered and does pretty much everything without making a fuss.
So in conclusion, get the Golf and fit a tracker.

Sell the E90 and buy a E87 130i. More powerful than the Golf. Better handling apparently too. Less likely to be a target for theft too. Still Rear wheel drive, still a BMW, still great fun.
130i. probably the best all round car you can buy IMO.

Are they really that desirable for theft?
Absolutely.Apparently the Golf R32 is 'the' theft magnet right now. I've heard stories of burglars entering houses just to steal the keys, I've heard of ECU swapouts, dealer key copy scams, all sorts of things. All to get hold of the R32. According to insurance company data they are one of the worst theft risks around.
Alternative is an 8P 3.2. Once equipped with some functioning suspension i.e. KW V3/Blistein PSS10 and H&R Anti-Roll Bars. Hell, they're so undesirable to everyone that you'd have to pay £7k to someone to take it away...and a thief would politely request you to tax/V Power it before they even think about driving away.

Well yes, but why not something like an E46 M3?
This.No more expensive to run than the R32, a lot quicker and a much better drive.
The Mk5 R32 is the most disappointing car I've owned. Too heavy, too slow (especially for the insurance / mpg / tax) and just lacked the sense of occasion of the M3. Indeed, I p/ex'd my R32 for an e46 M3.
The R32 sounds fantastic, but it's show over substance.

Interesting mixed bag of responses
I'm not really interested in an e46, getting on a bit now IMO.
I'd consider a 1 series as I did when I bought my current car but I'd now rather have a 135i rather than a 130i, I'll have to wait until the Mrs goes back to work though as she also wants a new car for her maternity leave.

Isn't the mk5 Golf "getting on a bit" too? If you worry about that sort of thing.
Not really, the one I'm looking at is a late 2008, the newest e46 M3 would be 2005???Besides I was asking about the E90 and Golf R32, I genuinely have no real desire to get into an older M car, might not be a popular choice with some on PH but it would be mine.
