Bit different, but maybe of interest?...
Toyota Celica Supra 1985 for a meer £1900...
Worth it for the pop up lights and that display
Once passed, get a couple of years no claims and shoehorn a 2JZ-GTE into it!

HA! Welcome to PH OzKo, you'll soon get used to the banter on here. Was in a similar boat this time last year, if you can get a nice mini insured for a decent price, go for it! Although I did fancy a Hillman Imp
Somebody will suggest an MX5, and some sort of mapped diesel BMW, just warning you.
sorry, didn't see your reply!Somebody will suggest an MX5, and some sort of mapped diesel BMW, just warning you.
haha, I've gathered.. -shrug- can't be avoided thanks for the warning!
erg, sorry about all the different posts.. I can never get out the habit of trying to reply to everybody... otherwise it seems rude.
I like the look of the Toyota Celica Supra, I can never get over pop-up headlights.. they fascinate me.. perhaps too much!
You never know, I may start a new trend with the old sports car theme.. lol

Yeah I like my pop up headlights, they're fun. This is my first car, it uses a lot of petrol and breaks down a lot. But that's what you get for owning a classic. I hope you're prepared for that.
Yeah, I'd be prepared for a bit of breaking down - I wouldn't be going on long journeys, and I know Dad would make sure the mileage would be as low as possible, so HOPEFULLY that would bring the risk down, but hey, what happens happens!
Honestly I ve just started driving been driving 2 weeks and having a 2 seater car would be better as friends just seem to put u off and I had a friend in and was chatting away and bumped into the car infront. Go with a pretty reliable car like the nissan juke just so you don't pay out in repair costs

Ahh, that's never good Good point made too, friends are distracting!Yeah, I do love the Juke, they're just so expensive that's the only problem!

nope, but Dad is he's rebuilt a MG Midget before... so he feels he could handle it.
Fair play and it gives you a head start... but unless you're going to keep your dad in the boot with the spare tyre you'd better start learning for yourself! Don't be too daunted though. If your dad rebuilt a Midget, he should be able to show you a lot of what you need to know.

Personally I'd go for a slightly more modern car just for the reliability, I'm 19 and my insurance was a good £2000 after I passed my test and my sisters insurance was a couple hundred less and she has a 1.6 BMW mini one.
I love old cars but for a first car I'd go for a slightly more modern one.
