So, we were sitting in the office working hard coffee when an email pinged into the inbox. As we were too tired to move, we sent Riggers to investigate it.

The content was surprising as Headlineauto wrote to tell us that PistonHeads has been short-listed for an award. OK, so it's a bit 'Readers Digest prize draw' in format, as all is not what it first seems. The email tells us that we have to tell them why we should win, it also doesn't include an invite to a champagne-fuelled party in London with free 'extras'. Disappointing.

However, this is the opening para of the email:

Headlineauto stuff said:
The shortlists for the 2011 headlinauto journalists' awards

Good luck to everyone who has made it to the shortlists!

As I said, we need to say why we should win but we're not sure we deserve it. What do you think?

Tell us your thoughts on this and we will send a link to this very thread as our entry as to why we should win (or not).

Over to you biggrin

The members make it IMHO. It's the huge collection of knowledge over a myriad subjects.

'cos if we win don't we'll send a 6ft 4 cage fighter, powerfully built with a goatee and numerous company directorships, to throw a can of Red Bull at you.

Right, that's that out of the way... wink

On the serious side it's more than a webiste, it's a community of varied opionions and views brought together by the common love of things automotive.

There is a wealth of knowledge and experience availble in all manner of subjects, we can recognise eachother in public but don't need a funny handshake or rolled up trouser leg.

If this place wins, que the anti-speed merchants criticising the decision to give the award to a place which promotes speeding and child killing, or some other nonsense.

Because we don't create stupid PhotoShop "exclusives" and the forums require lots of popcorn.

Collectively we've owned pretty much every car good & bad. Can offer advise on purchases and problems alike with real world costs and success. Further to that we help each other out or at least offer. The air ambulance in light of Richard Hammonds dragster crash. People offered me the use of their shower when my town was flooded and had no water for two weeks.

hehe are you too scared of the lounge to put this in there? If you are then perhaps a bit of gentle guidance to pull it out of the mire of turds that it is would be good.

If it's just a mistake then do what you will with the above smile

It would be worth it just for this.

In fact that may merit a day off work and a 'Fat-Yank-Portion™" of popcorn to keep up with it.

Yes, this would be epic.

It certainly shouldn't be for spelling, punctuation or grammar. I think PH is probably the largest gathering of of grumpy old car enthusiasts though...

I think it should win because of how it can feel like being down the pub, without the hangover in the morning.

Certainly, PH is the only car website I've experienced whereby the journalists are quite happy to answer you if you post a question about what they've written/experienced; and that there is no real boundary between those who run the site and its members, for me this really makes it more a community than just a car website, unlike others.
