Hmmm.

Rowan was on Top Gear talking about his McLaren 2 Weeks ago.
His new Film is out in September. This Film is heavily featured
in the Top Gear bits that are all over the web.

I'll step up here and shout "Marketing stunt."

Viral Marketing at its best. Kudos to whom ever is working for him.

There have been many cynical attempts to promote films in the past.

Firstly, this one isn't out yet. Secondly I can think of substantially cheaper ways that don't require injury to the person involved.

Prove us wrong.

There are so many easier ways to get in the news than to trash your pride and joy and land yourself in hospital in the process...

sir, you do realise that your name comes up anyway when you post ??
and ya makes perfect sense to crash one of the world's rarest most fantastic cars for publicity for a film.. very odd

Get well soon Rowan, same for the F1 - please don't be tempted to change the colour!

Looks like someone has been getting a little carried away on Wikipedia (emphasis is mine):
wikipedia said:
He used to own a McLaren F1, which was involved in an accident in Cabus, near Garstang, Lancashire with an Austin Metro. It was written off in a serious crash in August 2011 when he reportedly lost control and hit a tree and then caught fire.

Just glad RA is ok as he's a legend and a proper petrolhead.

Didnt he say on top gear he'd done a lot of miles in this car? 70000 +?

If that is the case, having only 1 or 2 spins in that time is pretty good going!

On the off-chance that Mr. Atkinson reads this thread: I wish you and your stunning car a swift recovery to full health, and as others have already commented, I can only praise the fact that you actually USE your car. thumbup

As an aside, it is wonderous what can be done to restore these types of car to showroom condition when money isn't the primary concern - The shame is that so many less valuable but significant and special older cars are needlessly scrapped after accidents / damage. I often cringe thinking "For the price of a new Kia Ecobox you could have repaired that". cry

Although it worked for Eddie Griffin in that awful Redline film, there is no way on earth Rowan would risk himself and sacrifice his beloved F1 to get a few twits on twitter gossiping. No chance at all.

The worldwide publicity Griffin crashing the Enzo got was priceless.

How about you stick to thinking the Moon landings are false and that Kerry Katona is a pie eating alien and leave us grown ups to wish Mr. Atkinson and his car a full recovery.

You cocksocket.

All the best Mr Atkinson.

I'm glad he drives that car regularly, instead of wrapping it up in bubble wrap like some people with exotics. Cars are for driving. Doesn't look too bad but you can't tell much from that picture.

You know when you took some time off PH to prove it to yourself, how about you go and do that again, you're not really the type we want on here.
