1983 Austin Ambassador Vanden Plas For Sale
£1,000 ono
Very nice car. No mot although has no faults that I know of. I have owned it for a couple of years but I am moving south and it can't come with me.
I have now got a full MOT on the car"
Are you not allowed to own an Ambassador in the South? £1,000 ono

One of the most comfortable rides ever. Remarkable for its ability not to rust by 70's and 80's standards.
Many happy memories of being thrown around the lanes of Gloucestershire by my mate in a russet brown 1700 HL.
Gearchange was cable if I recall so as it got baggy, so did the gearshift. Stirring porridge with occasional success on a good day. Use what gears you can find. Would have been OK with some maintenance but never got any.

I'd love an Ambassador soooo much.
That said, I'd like an Ital 1.7HL too.
You'd probably have wanted to swap places with me when I was a lad then! I remember our orangey-beige (with brown vinyl roof) Princess 2.2 HL fondly. Brown velour interior, and as others have said, a very comfortable car to travel in. RMR521S, where are you? That said, I'd like an Ital 1.7HL too.
The Princess was replaced with a white Ital 1.7 HL estate. It rusted to pieces, but we did have it for 10 years. Pretty sure YFY910W will have rusted in pieces a long time ago!
Our next door neighbour had a metallic red Ambassador- as he was an OAP, it had hardly any miles on it as he only used it to drive to the shops 1/2 mile away. I think it was replaced with a Maestro (predictable I guess!)
Despite some fond memories as a child, I can safely say these sheds are not really my cup of tea; although the Ambassador does have something about it!
My memory may be playing tricks but I don't think either were actually considered "woefully crap" at the time and were quite popular. In fact, by the standards of most BL product at the time, they were a positive bright spot.
Compared to most of the live axle rear drive competition of the time the Princess/Amabassador was actually quite sophisticated!

Know what I'd love to do? Somehow get that gold Ambassador down to some chic harbourside in southern France - say Nice or Cannes - park it up (before dawn, obviously, so you don't get seen!) and then sit a few yards away on a cafe terrace, hiding behind wrap-around sunglasses, just to see what people would make of it! Could even put an "A Vendre" notice on the windscreen... well you never know!
I suppose the stumbling block might be actually getting the car there? Under its own steam? What do we think, guys? There we go - one of those Top Gear 'cheap car' adventure/challenges - but with an exotic, international flavour (the location, I mean, not the car!)
