Hi All,

I'm desperate... I just cannot find the right car and I need some help...

Budget:
£9k.. that's the HARD limit... ideally I would like to spend less so I have some cash left over to make sure whatever I get is in fine fettle.

Brief:
Weekend / Fine weather car - I'm looking for a pure toy (have a sensible diesel estate car for all other occasions).
I would ideally like something RWD or 4WD... leaning more towards RWD (drifting looks fun!).
I would like something with a good power to weight ratio... ideally over 300bhp per ton.
I don't really care about MPG - it will only be a toy.
I would like a roll cage / harnesses in the car - I'm getting old and like the idea of not dying in a crash.
In an ideal world whatever I get would have a turbo, just because I like messing about with turbochargers / enjoy lag (call me weird).
I would like it to be unusual, previously driven a lot of Lancias and I miss the exclusivity.

I really like the idea of a sleeper or something with a stupid engine swap - but after bitter experience I would like something that has had all the hard work done before I buy it.

I have considered:
PH default MX5 - would need a turbo.
7 type thing - in my budget I'm not sure I can get something really worth buying?
Older Elise... I hear horror stories about de-lamination on older examples (in my budget).
Honda S2000 - bit girlie.
MR2 Turbo - bit common.

Please help me guys, have you seen the car I'm looking for?!?!?!?!?!?

(P.S. If anyone knows the whereabouts of that Cinquecento with the Cosworth lump in the back - please do let me know!)

How about this? It's up for 9250, private sale, so I reckon you could get a deal in budget (just)- 280 BHP TVR engined Sylva Phoenix:

What's not to like?! Pretty much fulfils all your criteria! OK, so no turbo, but it's got a V8- Get it bought! smile

VX220 or VX220 turbo..... £9k you may get a turbo and if you remember the TG episode, Clarkson said it was the only car he had driven on the track til it ran out of fuel (without having stupid fuel consumption or a tiny tank!) so it must be great!!

without the sarcasm though, they really are pretty special cars!

I like!

Will the VX220 be suffering from the same de-lamination issues as the Elise (or is that a load of bunk anyway?)

VX220s are great but I'd be tempted to buy an N/A and supercharge it. I like the Turbo performance but not the delivery. Also supercharged S2000s are supposed to be a bit special. Cures the lack of bottom end apparently.

There should be quite a few Westfields in that budget (I want one!!). Even the 1.8L duratec ones are about 130HP and weigh around 500KG so not far off your 300bhp/ton. They will feel fast for sure.

450/500 TVR Chimaera should be near the 300 bhp/tonne mark with some choice intake mods & fueling, ditching the spare wheel & cats, installing lightweight starter & battery (mine is at 1,015-1,020 kg) and unlike the kit cars/specials would back it up with a steam train-like torque curve all the way from 2,000 rpm or so... smile

It really depends whether you want road or track-biased performance.. smile

Yup, and 190-200+ bhp ones come up in that budget...

Don't forget Dax/Tiger etc too.
