woohoo

I know its wrong. But all my eyes will let me see in that picture is the back end from the B pillar back of an E30 and the front end from something else. I think it is some low volume Lancia/Alfa/Fiat Coupe of some sort, but despite being obsessed with cars and having religiously read Classic and sports car for the last 25+ years I can't put my finger on what it is.
Honda Legend?
Er, someone got it last year, Honda Prelude.

Is it a modified something, or is that actually a proper factory car?

The embellishments suggest factory but the panel fit suggests otherwise biggrin

It is a factory designed and built car, though sadly it was ultimately a total flop

Looks to be RHD so I'm guessing its British, especially with those panel gaps. Some sort of Morris prototype?

Not British - and I apologise for the RHD red herring! The picture has been flipped for some reason, having just checked the car is actually LHD.

The windscreen has apparently been smashed for decades but no replacements exist and to make a new one would cost a staggering amount of money - it is a very strange arrangement of a hugely thick structural pillarless screen and pillarless doors!

Bonnet emblem and chrome looks very studebaker-ish.

'Sadly' is not the word I would have used!

Is it Eastern European?

I've just been googling 'rear engine Studebaker' and apparently some were built with a Porsche engine

LarJammer is the closest so far - however it isnt German. The manufacturer was a great admirer of American design and engineering techniques, hence the Studebaker-esque looks
