You do realise that they don't release a new one yearly, don't you?
Like anyone would notice if they did..............................MrCarCoach said:
My verdict:
Exterior: Is pleasing to the eye and it keeps the Porsche D.N.A so general public will always recognise it as such, it doesn’t bring any flare to the table but then that’s not what Porsche are about. I like the design but I could never love it, just doesn’t excite me enough personally. The thing is Porsche can do that, the Carrera GT was a fantastic looking car, just wish some of that flare was cycled down into this. The rear lights also remind me of the clusters of the Renault Laguna Coupe, a lovely looking car from the rear.
Interior: Too business like. The quality will be fantastic but it doesn’t sit right for what is a sports car. It works well & looks great in the Panamera (best Porsche interior of the lot) but this just seems to suggest ‘business man express’ to me. It is very Germanic and cold. It needs that injection of charisma, so when you get in it you know you are in something special.
There is no doubt it will drive fantastic and retain Porsche’s crown for making the best sports car on the market BUT, there are many buyers out there who will want a bit of flare from their sports car and I worry that Porsche are effectively limiting their market to a more mature audience because of that fact.
Good post - if you want flare you have to get it in a louder colour.Exterior: Is pleasing to the eye and it keeps the Porsche D.N.A so general public will always recognise it as such, it doesn’t bring any flare to the table but then that’s not what Porsche are about. Also all aluminium
Are you sure ? Panels and chassis ? That would be the biggest news. Do you have a source for that info please ?The whole thing apart from the crash structures according the that Frankle bloke who writes in Motor Sport (September issue I think).
I think it looks great! I like the interior and the exterior.
With regards to the sloping dash, lest we forget that the Carrera GT had such a layout, I don't remember people slating it for this at the time.
As suggested elsewhere the rear gives a nice nod to the forthcoming 918, with the lights and the upturned crease.
Best picture for me is of the Silver car from the rear 3/4.
8.5/10.

I suppose it depends on what you're comparing them to - IME they both have accurate but slightly over-assisted controls, well damped but rather firm suspension and decent amounts of shove. Yes, Porsche do all of those things better than BMW, and yes their actual handling is utterly different, but that's not something you'd really find out around town. Above all, they both feel very... German (yes I know that sounds silly, but I can't think of a better way to put it).
If you stuck my wife in an M3 then a 911, I'm sure she would see more similarities than differences.
Well, my 'wife' - g/f to be accurate - could certainly tell the difference! Condemmed all my M3s as "just another, slightly faster, 3 series" whereas she loved driving my Porsches and called them "really different to drive - proper drivers cars". But then she does now own an AM V12V. Guess that just proves we're all different when it comes to cars. Additionally, who cares about "around town" - that's just the bit you get out of a.s.a.p looking for proper roads when you own one of these cars. If you're bothered about driving round town get a Smart Car or similar. If you stuck my wife in an M3 then a 911, I'm sure she would see more similarities than differences.
I have to admit, I actually like it. Don't think I like it more or less then the 997.2, but it doesn't offend me.
To be honest it might be quite hard for the designers to work on new 911's. You have to update them to look more modern but not too much. I for one would like to see the other design candidates to see the subtle design variations. All from a nerdy point of view of cause lol.

I really like it.
I'll also be interested to know and subsequently find out how it feels with its centre of gravity further forward - lower (not low) polar MoI.
Absolutely, and particularly if all those alu bit help it get even stiffer, it should be an awesome steer and the front might even stop pogoing.I'll also be interested to know and subsequently find out how it feels with its centre of gravity further forward - lower (not low) polar MoI.

Anyone else get the feeling that the 911 is slowly evolving into a mid-engined car?
How long before they fully integrate the gearbox entirely into the sump so the engine can sit directly on the rear axle line?
Agreed, give it 30 years or so and it will be mid-engine !How long before they fully integrate the gearbox entirely into the sump so the engine can sit directly on the rear axle line?
Mind you they've already got a far superior - mid engined - chassis in the range have they not. Only 'protecting' the 911 (by restricting the power allowed in other models) has prevented that 'lesser' Porsche from becoming THE model in the Porsche line up.
