RE: First Pics: Ferrari 458 Spider

I'm still not sure about the 458's looks but that folding roof looks great and surely makes the coupe almost obsolete (except perhaps the upcoming scuderia). Still, if I were going to spend £200k on a Ferrari it would most likely be on a 246 and not a 458 (although there are currently no 246s for sale in Switzerland)

Not the first mid-engined car with an electrically-operated hardtop - the Lamborghini Diablo Roadster got there first.
The Diablo Roadster has a button between the seats in the cabin which releases the locking mechanism holding the roof to the engine cover - so if by "electrically operated" we mean "there is a relay which unlocks the roof, at which point you need to either open the windows or the doors (to get the glass out of the way of where the roof will go) get out of the car, remove the hardtop from the top of the engine cover, unlatch the catches at the front of the hardtop, fold the sunvisors forward, locate the pins on the front of the hardtop at the top of the windscreen, lock down the front catches, locate the rear catches to allow the rear pins on the hardtop to locate in the holes, lock the rear catches, fold the sunvisors back, and then close the windows/ doors, then yes, it's an electrically-operated hardtop. In reality, the Diablo Roadster is more similar to the F355GTS, ie, a removable hardtop. It's still a good design though and takes less than a minute, unlike the roof on the Murcielago Roadster.Garage Affolter in Switzerland made a one-off Diablo Roadster with a full electric roof, but the various modifications did not do wonders for the car's stying.
