The Ford Capri was considered cool in it's day.

The Hyundai isn't.

Other than layout I see no connection on the first example. There are plenty of examples like the thunderbird, beetle, mini, 911, 500, Gullwing etc.

To the Tickford Capri possibly....and then the hatchback S13...but the true successor to the Capri is the Mustang again even to using a 210hp 4.0 V6 version of the 2.8 lump.

The Hyundai doesn't resemble the Capri in the slightest.

yeah, they won't pull off a successor to the capri while they keep trying to save money by using a FWD floorpan/drivetrain. the cougar and probe both fell on their arse for this reason imho.

Probe 2 - the sequel.

Ford managed to make the Mazda MX6 worse with the Probe and customers stayed away. So they did it again with the Cougar. Bonkers.

The Cougar was Mondeo-based.
