To be honest I didn't think those costs were too OTT considering the use on track. Try running any other exotic car on track and those costs will look positively tame in comparison.
Depends what you;re used to tracking I guess. They are mahoosive tyres and hugely powerful brakes, but I'd still say the costs are eyewatering.Guvernator said:
I was however more concerned about all the other issues they seemed to have with the car. I thought the GT version of the 911 engine was supposed to be bombproof ...
I did, until a few weeks back. Since then the same sort of issues have been noted in a number of places. Oddball RS said:
I've run three 996 GT3's (one RS) for a total of probably 22k miles and none of them have ever dropped any oil?
That's the thing, they certainly don;t all do it. Not early doors anyway. Some do though. First 997 GT3 I ever saw was owned by a guy who runs a business near mine. His had a new engine withinh 6 months. There's quite a few stories on forums and a number - see the classifieds -of cars for sale now declare they've had a new lump.
Sad really.

I'm not an authority and can't claim any inside knowledge. Neither am I currently an owner, buyer or seller though, so I have no axe to grind.Buy if you want, but perhaps with eyes open and a decent warranty; either OPC or reputable independant specialist. Trawl the net for more on this.

RMS failures occur but they are not epidemic. Disuse is a big part of it. I have an RS.1 and and RS.2 and they are both driven regularly. So far, no problems. A more scary issue is the tendency for them to dump al their coolant on the track with catastrophic results. We have had a number for those and I am having my RS.2 modified (have to drop engine and do a weld ) to avoid this particular issue. They are sensational fun to drive and I use mine both on road and track.
I agree on the RMS. Mine had a minor leak when I bought it, but has gone now i've started using the car.XTR2Turbo said:
Nice looking car but reading that this car has had 4 seals seems to confirm what many Porsche enthusiasts want to deny. My brother's 997 GT3 has had 2 and the engine split to deal with crankcase leaks. The dealer blamed his problems on not using the car enough. Can't say that applies here.
Is there a 997 GT3 that has not had these problems? I find it astonishing that Porsche have not been able to sort this.
My RS (done 13k miles) has never had any seals in it's life and was in at OPC just a few weeks ago for it's 4 year major. Dry as a bone underneath so i don't know why it plagues some cars and not others? Is there a 997 GT3 that has not had these problems? I find it astonishing that Porsche have not been able to sort this.

Hi,
That first photo is stunning.
I really like these , well I like any (997) 911 but I loved these since Hammond took one across Europe in Top Gear. Orange is the best colour aswell IMO.
Great Car!
Thanks! We have a large print of the first photo up on a wall; does look good! That first photo is stunning.
