Everyone who entered (early enough) got a test drive, or the chance to at least.
I didn't, and I entered the day the subscriber copy landed on my doormat... frown
Oh, I stand corrected. Did you get a phone call from the marketing bloke?
I got a phonecall on a Sunday afternoon from a very nice lady. Unfortunately I was distracted by being away for the weekend so didn't give it as much attention as I should have. Ah well.

No idea what this is to be honest. Sounds like it might've been good though.

I'm pretty sure it isn't based on the star rating.
I didn't even get my initial 200 word entry on the site and I got an email telling me there were a huge amount of entries etc etc.

What has surprised me is some of the crap initial entries such as this that got through to the second round:

http://lotusdiaries.evo.co.uk/profile/jenellen

compared to some of the much better ones that don't seem to have been offered the test drive. confused
To be fair, her road test write up is quite entertaining (certainly different!), but I agree that with that 'Tell us why you would make a great correspondent for the Lotus Diaries?' bit, it's surprising she got an invite to the test drive stage.
in answer to which the entrant said:
Big boobs and a big mouth - what more do you need?! Oh and I kinda like the Evora too...
Surpising how?
biggrin

Anyone know any more? The website says there's still time to upload a review. Is there?

Well, I uploaded my review a couple of weeks ago and it never got put up and last week I got an email saying that it was over, so I guess not.

I entered, but got chucked out in the first round. Turns out when they say entrants must be over 25, they really mean it. Oh well!

If it has closed that's scandalous.

the dedicated web page continues to read

'If you’ve been lucky enough to be selected to get behind the wheel of the Evora, as part of the competition, then there’s still time to submit your road test review.'

surely there are legal issues here?

I'll lash in a review and see how I get on.

I had a go but no joy. A little disappointed as there really were some rubbish entries on there to get people the chance to just drive the evora.

If you are competing against someone happy to play the tits n ass card you're onto a loss immediately. I'm pretty sure my road test write up would have been better than most on there too.

Bitter? Me? Nah

Good luck to your bro OP! Link to his stuff?
There were people in the first round who had written one line! One profile just said 'e' I think!! confused

I got invited to the test drive but didn't go as my circumstances had changed. Wasn't too impressed my local Lotus dealership was apparently Silverstone when I live in Reading too.

Hardly. It isn't for TV and I can't see EVO suddenly going for the soft porn market! A decent review and good writing style will win it.

When I saw some of the chosen profiles I did think it was a bit bogus and put me off a bit tbh.

Hardly? One review, posted somewhere in this thread, was exactly that.

I am sure the eventual winner will be worthy by virtue of being able to write properly, but from what I saw, the first part of the competition was a farce in terms of the accepted entries

Sorry, I totally agree it was a farce.

That posted already was not a review but the initial entry picked to get to the test drive and review stage. That was the first stage. I saw that in amongst all the chosen profiles (along with the one which didn't say anything accept 'e'!!!) and thought this is a joke.

Your post read to me like someone would'nt stand a chance of winning the competition against Miss Big Tits.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed to see that having a stonking pair of tooters was a green light to getting through to the next round. More so when so many actually made an effort.

I thought the standard was very poor overall. Most seem to be trying to ape what they read in car mags, not find their own voice and honest opinion.

Writing is a bit like driving though, everyone thinks they're good at it.

I'd be disappointed if they pick winners from some of the cliche ridden claptrap I've read on there.

If anyroo is through to the next round then it's clear that video isn't essential. I figured that would be important.

I'm fairly sure the last thing the new desperately image concious Lotus management wants is a car geek representing their brand for 12 months. Whereas Evo is a fine collection of car geeks, so it will be interesting to see how that one works out.

Anyone know any more about whether they're accepting further entries?

I rang my Lotus dealer and he said it was over. I'm not convinced that he's got mixed up with part 1 being closed for entries. Hopefully someone here will know better.

No worries - I think we both meant the same thing!

I guess what really grates is taking the time to write a decent entry only to see that there were some single-sentence pieces on there which, in all honesty, were rubbish.

I am sure it is very difficult to review all entries, however for some (most) motoring enthusiasts, even having the opportunity to test drive an Evora would be a good enough prize. To see some of those drives go to people who had clearly only taken a couple of minutes to reply was frustrating.

Good luck to those on PH who have entered - it would be great to see/hear about the Evora should they win.

Apologies to andyroo, just re-read my earlier post and it sounds like I'm referring to you when I say 'car geek'. That is purely unintentional, even though posting on pistonheads makes us both car geeks in the eyes of many!

Chevron, for what it's worth (not much sadly) I personally thought your entry came across as well informed and well thought through. Perhaps the judges were looking for something less factually accurate and more entertaining? You may have taken a small risk being critical of the car, even though it was just a tiny negative in the interests of a balanced view, they may have decided that 200 words leaves no room for being critical. Who knows? The thing is, going through lots of entries means you tend to notice those that stand out, even those you might not pick if you were judging everything purely on its own merits.

Did the tits'n'ass woman get through to the last 20?
