Once again, cheers for everyone's input, I feel a bit guilty now being so impressed with the cupra r after everyone else has put in other suggestions, but I now really want one! Thanks PH! smile
Good choice, they are pretty good for a just a "boring hatchback". It is a pity the new R did not carry on where the Mk1 LCR left off.

Having driven both, I wasn't blown away by a standard UK Impreza 2000 at all and felt that a remapped LCR felt, and indeed is, much quicker in a straight line. But the Impreza excels on the twisties and traction.

Ill tell you now, even though the standard T2000/WRX are not blisteringly quick in modern terms, an LCR, whether mapped or not, is not much quicker.

No, even a standard CTR is as quick as a standard WRX. They weigh a lot and only have about 230bhp, and with tranmission losses, etc, but an LCR is much quicker? bks.

If it doesn't need to be practical, surely a VX220 for 8k is a great option? That would be my choice, or a S2000 maybe? though insurance might be bad on those 2.

A quick google tells me an LCR weighs 1370kg - compare that to ~1250 for a 'classic' Impreza or ~1350 for a bug eye WRX.

More like nearer to 1500kg, god knows what blob eye, bug eye, they all look crap other than the classic's.

So an LCR isn't going to be much faster then is it?

I'll refer you to my earlier posts and point out that the biggest difference between a standard wrx and an LCR is the number of gears.

plus or mimus 100kg, 30bhp, transmission losses, etc are irrelevant if you're more often at the correct revs for the engine's maximum power.

Good choice OP. You won't regret it. They're so underrated.

I don't think anyone has mentioned the fact they were built at the SEAT sport factory, not on the mainstream production line like most other hot hatches. They are very well sorted cars.
