Really? Oh dear.
I don't get this "the parts on those" thing. Like any other car, pretty much every commonly replaced component is available over the internet at GSF, Eurocarparts etc.

Because they were expensive when new, and thus (potentially) carry high running costs. They're pretty unfashionable too, what with being larger-engined and often auto.

I've always liked the W124 - in particular the saloon, then estate. However, these coupes look lovely

This estate's up for 2250

We're talking 1k bangernomics cars here, not W221's!

Alternators, radiators, starter motors, suspension components etc are all over the shelf for W124's & 201's. Immensely strong & simple cars to work on. Theres a reason they are so popular in many east european & african countries.

Most companies don't supply parts for models this old so its lucky to have dealer supply at all with Mercedes

My '94 Merc has run trouble-free for the two years I've had it. Just about to turn 140,000 miles and (when used today) was as smooth as silk.

Cheap? Maybe.Cheerful? Definitely.

I'd sooner have a Volvo for straight forward engineering sense but then I'm a Volvo man -

Mercs are dirt cheap my mat gas just bought a shabby 2000 model merc clk 320 for only 1900quid - a lot of pose for the cash if you're into that sort of thing - being a Volvo man, I'm not!

There's a fantastic Merc for sale near me, not sure of the exact model but it's an '03 plate silver 2 door coupe, big old thing, think it's a CL350 (ish) looks like this anyway...

Price is £1300 !!! Someone has lost a sh*tload in 8 years of ownership...
Thats not a 2003 car at all. They were discontinued in the late 90's (Well, literally 1999).

Thanks all.

I'll do some more digging around. I won't be buying for a few weeks as i'm off on holiday. But when I come back i'll be on the hunt for a barge.
