This isn't really anything new for them - look at how many "limited edition" Elises there were. What's new is the sheer crassness of the marketing.

Someone at Lotus SHOULD be shot.

Soon to be followed by the Jimmy Sommerville Elise, and the Marc Almond Elan......

The potential viability of the Larry Grayson edition 2-11 was stunted by the lack of doors.....

"Shut that...err, oh, erm...."

What the hell are their marketing dept thinking? Have they been drafted in from Top Shop or something?! Totally agree with the Charity thing, but there are a million more relevant ways to make some money. Sell and old F1 car or something! Or if you must create a special edition at least make it vaguely relevant like a full carbon bodied Evora or something.

What the hell's next? A Pepper Pig special edition Elise?!

You're confused, you're thinking of the Marvin Gaye edition.

Possibly.

The car itself is hideous IMO, the notion of a company indirectly donating a chunk of a money to a charity is no bad thing in itself, especially as a wealthy Queen fan will probably pay over the odds for this one.

As the marketing exercise/cheap bit of PR line goes - I think it'd be naïve to expect there's not a significant aspect of that to it and Lotus taking a "no publicity is bad publicity" stance of late. I think the link is tenuous at best, however noble a gesture it is dressed up as. Still, both parties benefit and that's what makes it all work.

If they wanted to be truly altruistic and valued the charity, they could surely simply make a sizeable donation to the charity, anonymously or otherwise. Plus it could be written off against taxable profits if I'm not mistaken. Ah, Lotus making a profit. Hmm, I see the potential problem there...

Sweet blue jesus, that press release.. Tragic!

Can we have a Sunday Service coup at Hethel? We need to seize control from these cretins before there is nothing left to save.

At a guess, it could be why Brian May was involved in the unveiling of the cars at the Paris motor show.

They're giving a tarted up Evora away to Charidee, it's all for a good cause so i support them.

After all, its not like they could sell the Evora is it? No f**ker is buying them.

As for Lotus in general though, including the pun-tastic press release, they have seriously got to put up or shut up.

We need the new models, and soon. The V6 Exige will be a nice stop-gap but it's really not the car we're waiting for. That would be this:

Have we been able to confirm whether or not this is a Sniff Petrol article yet? It sure seems like one.

The only thing that worries me about this is that it is an auction, and the guy who wrote the release never thought to mention Hammer To Fall. Baffling.
Au contraire...

Are you 5? Opening track of their 1977 album "News of the World" and countless live shows. It practically defines Queen.

I have no problem with charitable donations. Good for Lotus, good for the charity.

Am suprised we get the first Lotus Marketing message as soon as Monday morning. Last week we almost made it through the week before Fridays anouncement of the GTE.

Does this mean we'll be getting more press releases to discuss later this week?

I think some of the responses to this have been the funniest I've ever read! To the incredibly funny contributors out there, I say 'brilliant'! To the members of the Lotus Cars PR department who STILL write on here pretending to be punters but upholding the now rather limp corporate 'end' I say, 'do shut up - you cannot justify this blatant form of bad taste PR'.

Fine, donate a car (and good for them for doing that), make it special by having the rest of Queen sign something or simply do something tasteful and discrete, but make more of the issue of AIDS and the valuable contribution that research and education is making to reducing loss of life worldwide from such an awful illness - not use lots of puns and try and be flippant about it.

Dany Bahar is one of the most tasteless individuals sadly currently residing in the UK. This was his idea apparently and just goes to show what a foppy-haired Turkish dim-wit he really is. Abdul or Tariq or whatever your real name is, please do every Lotus fan a favour and resign and go back to Ferrari or a soft drinks company or something, anything and leave Lotus in the hands of someone else who might just understand how to behave and how to promote a well-loved and respected British car company.
