Which 205/55/R16 tyres?
Discussion
So our civic has front tyres at the wear bars, but also, I found out tonight that the source of the ticking noise that's been following us around for a good two weeks is actually a fairly large self tapping screw lodged in the rear wheel. I am going to see if it can be repaired as the rears have lots of life in them.
If I can't get it done, I'll buy 3 of the same tyres (bridgestone er300's) so that they all match. But if they can repair it then I am thinking of getting different tyres on the front.
Preferably cheaper tyres, but I have no idea what's good. How are Avon/Dunlop/Goodyear/Continental at around that 100-120 price point? Or is all a bit much of a muchness and it doesn't really matter at that price? (ie all just as likely to find the nearest ditch)
The bridgestones have been ok I must say, it's not a powerful car and being a Honda there's no such thing as enough torque to break traction. They have worn incredibly well too which is a big plus.

I've recently stuck 4 Uniroyal Rainexperts on my Alfa, in that size, for about £70 each from Event Tyres. They feel slightly loose in the dry, but that is me being a bit picky. However, in the wet, they are simply superb. Wheelspin, aquaplaning, and ABS cut-in are near enough completely eliminated. This is coming from matching Pirellis. I cannot recommend highly enough.

Unless you're a racing driving you don't need to spend a fortune. Maragoni versos are only £54 or kuhmo ecsta are only £60!
Agreed. Kumho Ecsta, Falken 452, Vredstein Ultrac Sessenta... All much, much less than £100 a corner and will offer near identical performance and safety.Otispunkmeyer said:

Ouch! Michelin Primacy HP are around £80 per corner from Costco in that size, that'd be a decent saving for a start!Otispunkmeyer said:
Well, managed to get the very same tyres from Kwikfit for 74 a corner. This is their online discount price but I rang up my local kwikfit and the manager said he can bump the appointment up to this morning. Nice.
Won't be cheap by the time they've changed a couple of shocks and fitted a new exhaust during their free safety check Opulent said:

After reading some good reports on these, am about to put a couple on the front of ours in the next week or two (getting the last of the tread out of the old Contis). Hoping that as a wet tyre they will see us through the majority of the wet autumn and winter weather, and maybe a little better on snow due to the deep tread pattern.£68 a corner fitted didn't seem too bad either.

£64.80 from Camskill tyres.
Far better than anything else, that's been mentioned. Superb grip wet or dry, and ultra mileage.
Don't forget to add the fitting costs at c. £16 a corner.Far better than anything else, that's been mentioned. Superb grip wet or dry, and ultra mileage.
£16 a corner fitted !!!!!!, even the local ATS do them for £8 a corner when they are mail ordered.

We have these on our Alfa GT and they have been very good indeed, decent grip, lowish road noise and last around 30,000 milesicepop said:
No thanks, they fitted and balanced them for £70 a go. Regular TR-1's usually only cost £75 fitted, from Westgate tyres Morecambe.

Useful to know. Oddly, I've not considered ATS for fitting tyres. I'll give them a go.£16 a corner fitted !!!!!!, even the local ATS do them for £8 a corner when they are mail ordered.
I've both the ER300 and Uniroyal RainExpert on my Mondeo, same size.
The ER300 is more precise as far as steering is concerned, but outright grip is similar. The RainExperts wear about double the rate of the Bridgestones.
Considering the Bridgestones and Uniroyals were the same price locally (£75 fitted), I'll be getting the Bridgestones again next time.
Edit: The car has Vredestein Hi-Tracs on it when I got it, and they were pretty good.
