My wife is complaining that there is a smell when she switches the air-con on in her car, anyone used any of the 'cleaners', either the spray in the vent, or Bomb type thing. I'm always a bit sceptical of spray can engineering !

Thanks

Had one of mine "cleaned" when it went in for service.

Smelt nice for a few days but after that, the stink returned.

Best getting a proper service on it rather than a smell to hide a smell.

Wurth do a good air con cleaner that kiils all the spores and 'orrible mould on your A/C unit.

It comes with a long pipe to push down your dash and scuttle vents to get right into the heater box.

One word of warning though.
I was sat on Drivers side of my father's car pushing the tube down the vents and then squeezed the triger.

Father was sat in passenger and seat got a face full of A/C cleaner at full blast.
I had managed to push the pipe down one vent, through the heater box and up the other dash vent getmecoat

Last week I used some Wynns Airco Fresh (from a Motor Factor, iro £6) and it seems to have sorted the "stale" whiff from our Aircon.

The box says it is good for 2 applications and you can either use it from inside the car or by removing the pollen filter and spray it in the intake.

I did this with a smelly beemer but for 30 mins, normal drive with windows open. It worked very well.

Before you pay for an expensive service - start your car up, turn A/C on, full fan and full heat for 1 minute.

After one minute switch immediately to max cooling, again full fan. Run for another minute.

Repeat a few times, or until you get bored.

If your bacteria issue isn't too bad, the massive change in temps can kill them off, and reduce the pong, sometimes get rid of the pong altogether.

I used a comma one on the wifes Golf, worked a treat. Just stick the aircon on re-circulate, pop the can then close the door. Spray can empties itself for a few minutes and the mist gets pulled around the system by the re-circ. All smells gone and havent come back.

Make sure you check the pollen/air filter before you start , sometimes its the filter thats gummed up and needs replacing.
