I did see that but it isn't UK registered. A militart spec chassis with original tags would nned IVA/SVA assessment and the engine numbers would be checked and cross referenced against the stolen vehicle database (I would hope) before a log boog could be issued. Making it a pain in the cheeks as "ringing kits go".

That's a replacement chassis rather than replacement identity.

Post a link to it so the Pistonhead collective can report it to eBay.

Good find. bow

Under the continuous registration act it is an offence to retain the V5 registration document after a vehicle is scrapped. He may well be sellin the number plate but without a retention certificate it isn't transferable without the car being M.O.T'd. The only way to do that would be to put that cars identity on to a car that would pass one.

Very clever way to sell a ringing kit eh? wink

I'm suprised PH bods haven't got onto eBay for an interview yet.

Why do you allow this in the first place?

Why does it take so long for a listing to be removed?

Why do you not forward obviously illegal activity to the Police?

Etc....

Thanks to the DVLA and its Continuous Registrations department they can sting you for £40-£80 if the log book gets lost in the post (see DVLA vs Liquid Knight). Sadly no matter how hard they try to make it look like you've broken the law it is a civil dispute with the DVLA at best.

The main issue here is.....

The Law said:
Accessory To Theft

An accessory to theft charge is a criminal charge. Those who are facing this particular type of legal proceeding are likely to be involved in some way with a theft, of any type. The accessory is not the person who completed the theft themselves, however they were involved in the incident either directly or indirectly in some way. An accessory may be someone who provides getaway transportation, arranges, assists or commands the theft. They may be someone who hides the evidence or the criminal after the fact, knowing that the criminal has committed the crime. As an accessory to theft, the individual is likely to face legal charges, though they are likely to be less significant than that of the actual criminal.
So if you sell a vehicles identity and that is then used to change the identity of a stolen vehicle you are an accessory to the actual theft.

Heritage shell builds?

Last time I checked you can't get one for an Escort.

As for MG all the body pannels are available to build a shell from scratch yourself if you wanted to, it's lazyness buying one and in my opinion should be registered as a kit car or on a "Q" plate. Coming from someone who has restored six MGBs, three Midgets and a Frogeye Sprite in the past (and enjoyed every single weld) I would never ever; ever use a heritage shell. There was talk of cars having to retain at least 70% of their original body/chassis to not require an IVA/SVA. Sadly Heritage shell kit cars are making as much as fully restored cars (that have taken longer) or even original ones (that have been better looked after) and if you can buy the identity of a car easilly enough and use new parts as well you can build an MGB in a weekend, get it M.O.T'd and on the road. You could argue it's a good thing and a good way of keeping an old car on the road but it isn't the case when it's a new shell and new bits it should be classed as a new car or replica.

The Escort ringing kit was destined for two things. Someones pride and joy being stolen so the eBay identity can be used to make sure the rightful owner never saw their car again or used to register a ropey kit car to avoid an SVA/IVA and therefore may well kill (or worse) the next owner.

If you have a problem with a few people wanting to stop that from happening then that's your opinion.

Dear tubethings,

I found this item via a thread on Pistonheads called "Ringing kits for sale on eBay"

Did you know that if you sell this vehicles identity and it is used to ring a stolen vehicle you could go to prison as an accessory to the actual theft of the vehicle.

Also the DVLA can fine you for failing to declare the vehicle as scrapped.

I hope the storys about prisons are exagerated and you don't end up a statistic.
That worked a lot quicker than reporting it. hehe

wink they've been around for some time, mostly used in historic rallying
Happy to stand corrected on that one, but an RS2000 Custom (drop snoot) and a group four rally shell are chalk and cheese.
