Wouldn't pass DVLA 'check' as had a new chassis at some time? Shame, as it looks a nice car, just needed registering correctly when it was built or during 'amnesty' when SVA was introduced.

Possibly might end up being used for ringing, but there'd be nothing wrong with using a new shell to rebuild it, so it's not inherently dodgy.

The temptation to ask if it comes with the free slate is significant.

Well, you wouldn't be using any of it. Just putting the drivetrain they say may still be OK into a new shell. There's nothing wrong with that.

But the problem is yes, it could also be used to ring a stolen one.

Given the prices fetched by restomod Minis right now, this is going to happen a lot - throw away the old shell, start with a new one, maintain the identity (legally), and produce a thing of preciousness (to some).

And also a lot to lose by not insuring your ride.

The not recorded aspect doesn't mean it wasn't insured. Some write offs aren't logged properly.

If it was an insurance write off would the V5 & tag be on sale on ebay?

What's the correct way to report this to have it successfully removed ? I reported it as 'encouraging illegal activity', what's most effective ?

Would Trading Standards be interested? Registered auto-breaker not following the rules?

Sad to see the world hasn't moved an inch from the start of this thread. Someone is about to get their pride and joy taken from them facilitated by eBay allowing criminals to sell identities.

You can build a Mk1 from scratch now, all that will be used for is to give such an example a period ID instead of a new reg.

There are very few Mk1 RS 1600 left so little chance of one being stolen just to use that ID.

That was my initial thinking too. Or a "replica" suddenly becoming a RS1600

30 bids by 16 bidders so far and it's still got days to go.

The silly prices of fast Fords make no sense to me. Many aren't genuine and it still doesn't undermine the silly prices.
