Ringing kits for sale on ebay...No not on our watch!

Anyone else wonder why we are doing this. Have a look at the number of Land Rover ringing kits for sale and the number of stolen Land Rovers. eBay are literally aiding and abetting the theft of these motor vehicles and/or are accessories after the fact.

You can build a Mk1 from scratch now, all that will be used for is to give such an example a period ID instead of a new reg.
There are very few Mk1 RS 1600 left so little chance of one being stolen just to use that ID.
That doesn't make it ok though? Is that your suggestion?(probably not)There are very few Mk1 RS 1600 left so little chance of one being stolen just to use that ID.

Collecters item....So, not a ringing kit as such but definitely something that should never see a road again! I thought I'd seen it all until I'd seen this listing....
Slightly worryingly for every comment calling it out, there's another comment supporting the author and saying its all fine.....
Problem is how one goes about reporting this to the DVLA as there is no visible identity in the listing, only the US title..... and the seller sure as hell isn't going to give details on that out now that things haven't gone his way

For the title, yes, that can be quite difficult, but for rebuilding it I can see it being done and why. The new owner could buy a brand new ladder frame+running gear, and put the rusty shell (with a box somewhere with loads of tetanus injections) on it for cool looks. The car should be able to run well with new running gear and frame, but still would have the patina and the look of the fire. AFAIK this is how most rat rods are being made, looks crusty on the outside, new and well made underneath. Can it be done? Yes.
Should it be done? Probably not.

It looks like the aluminium components are still intact, so it may not have gotten that toasty. I'd certainly give it a check over before condemning it.
Yes, that's clearly had a licking of flames rather than being the centre of an inferno. Even the rubber footplates are still visible - if it was really hot, they'd be vaporised. The FB comments make me laugh; hydrofluoric acid won't be present in any higher concentration than a typical aluminium cleaner. It's an armchair expert response from someone with little practical mechanical experience.

The biggest spec change came in September `78. The RS was now available in two specifications (basic and custom).
The basic was exactly the same mechanically but it lost a lot of the `luxuries`, including
Tinted glass, glove box, door cards, console and the alloys. The interior was a mixture of the 1600 Sport and the Mexico.
The custom was much the same as the original of `76 except the following.
The original Scheel seats were replaced by Recaros, the glass had a bronze tint instead of a green one and you had a choice of trim colour!
Many options were available for the RS2000 & the whole Mk2 Escort range, these options were known as ‘Series X’
in brief between 1976 and late 1978 there was only 1 model of RS2000, and hence it had some of the later Custom features, BUT if had roll top seats.
Late 1978 (when they had dropped the Mexico) they had 2 models of RS2, the base and the custom.
the custom trim should have the following.
Fishnet Recaro seats, full door cards, clock and pod, centre console, 6Jx13″ alloys, boot carpet, remote drivers door mirror and the back panel around the rear lights was black.
Base trim had Mexico door cards, steel wheels, and body colour rear pane.
Pre 78 models would of had some of the later custom features but not the fishnet seats.

"Great investment" - yeah of course it is Unfortunately this is how most of these sellers get around eBay's car parts / selling regs now - list it as memorabilia / wall art, etc, in a sub-category like brochures, art, etc and eBay rarely ever touch it even if it's reported as they claim the seller isn't selling it for any dodgy reasons because they're marketing it to the memorablia collector community (that was one of the responses i once received when questioning one via eBay's own support portal)
Edit - oh look, turns out the Fiesta still exists (or at least it did before they stripped the tags / identity off it) in another one of their listings - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175198587142
Also not surprising to see it being flogged by a supposed registered business, that knows what they're doing isn't right, and that also happen to specialise / trade in used parts for Land Rovers. Based on the Fiesta identity, probably safe to assume they may have done it previously with some LR ID's as we've already had examples in the past on this thread where people seek out the classic LR ID's in order to create / build up a classic tax bracket vehicle on a modern chassis.

Which is what I don't get. Why not sell them together? Is it really worth that much more dead than a alive.
