I mean it is wrong, in many ways.

That said, re-shelling a GTI with the shell of a lesser model, moving the engine and components over is in my book fine. As would be re-engineering a lesser model with a GTI engine.

So if you re-shell and move the vin plate? Fine?

If you re-shell but leave some of the parts on the shell, so its actually half way between a re-shell of one or a re-engine and trim of the other?

If some of the parts going into the mix are from other donors, sourced online or otherwise?

If one of the parts is the VIN plate at V5?

Car was stolen remove all parts because some of the electric stuff like ECUs radio often have the Original vin coded Into it
Then weld shell vin from a write off into good shell

Thinking about it, yes you're probably right.
Some cars at some point in their life though were worth more broken up for the sum of their parts.
The position of the vin on this one though( os strut tower) should be pretty easy to spot from behind if it's been welded in.

at the end of the day...SVA wasnt detecting all the weaknesses...IVA is much strikter here...

what i´m wondering: how those cars do pass their anual MOT over a period of several years without anybody noticing that they are incorrectly registered`?

Much the same way as the turbo LET Corsas still registered as a 1.1 and 90's Land Rovers with Series VIN plates. Either MOT testers don't care and are incompetent or they are complicit (after the fact).
