He is a really nice down to earth bloke, I was chatting to him about the feature he did in car I think which was a comparison between 458, GT2RS and MP4-12C.

458 was all the rounder, but the GT2RS was great fun

He doesnt come across very well in his autobiography. All a bit "I was amazing, should really have been a F1 driver but kept crashing so drove in a few other series instead and still crashed" and then later on it was more "I held the whole of top gear together when it came to doing the car stunts and non of it would have been possible without me".

Maybe it wasnt meant like that, I dont know, but I wouldnt buy the book again.

you read a different version to me then, I thought he came across very honest and self critical in it

are you sure you bothered to read it, and not just looked at the shiny pictures?

ask him what classic car he would dream of racing at Le mans, also about his "off" in the koniesegg and that spoiler.... (or me thinks softer rear dampers!)

Be nice, he is a top bloke!

Right then just got back from the pub.
So,
What does he drive?
Does he have a classic weekend car?
What is the best track in the UK?
What are your racing plans for next season?
What car do you dream of racing at Le Mans?
What happened with the Konigsegggggggggg?

Asking about Clarkson etc will be too long winded, I'm not sure how long I will have to chat.
OXO tower etc would be quite amusing but I don't want to risk looking like a loony!

Thinforth, If I get a chance I will pop over for a chat!

According to Mr collins, he said at Trax sunday he drives an S5 which has been given/loaned to him from Audi.

Terry grant made him look silly though when it comes to precise driving.

I never saw his apple squashing demo frown

Terry Grant is the daddy at that precision driving yes but then Ben Collins is a racer not a showman

+1 Y2blade - read the book on holiday and he came across as honest, self-critical and like all good racing drivers, highlighted his lack of luck at times!

He also seemed to like Hammond and May, and ended up respecting Clarkson for his professionalism and desire to 'put on a show' - thought he was quite nice about the other TG presenters.

Condi - Are you sure you're reading the same book?

Quite - I got the impression he ended up pretty good mates with Hammond.

I had a wee chat with him this morning but not for long.
The info I managed to squeeze out of him was...
He drives a VW Transporter minibus and as has been said a Audi "loan" S5.
I asked him if he had a weekend car but he claims that he has been spoiled after driving all these supercars,
he said "after driving lots of Lambos Ferraris etc, the are all the same".

He said his favorite car was the Ferrari 456, which seemed a bit odd to me?
I asked what he thought the best UK circuit was, he said he liked Knockhill (probably because he was in Aberdeen)
but also liked Oulton Park and Silverstone.

He said he was concentrating on this 24hr malarky so didn't give much away about future racing plans.
He commented on the Koniggsegggg crash, when he shunted it the owner was nearby.
When it struck the tyrewall one of them got stuck in the front grill, he said that they were all trying to pull it out before the owner arrived and even had a rope round it onto the ambwilans to try and pull it out.
He said Clarkson is an argumentative twunt, which we had all figured out for ourselves. biggrin

Thats about it! He seemed like a nice enough chap but IMO not very enthusiastic about driving or cars, it was a bit obvious he just wanted to do his bit and then bugger off.

Thinforth, I had full intentions of coming for a chat but unfortunatly I didn't get the chance, maybe next year.

Suppose it makes sense re driving all those amazing cars why would you want anything else.

But it could be nice to have say a mint condition 205 gti 1.9 or a daytona etc whatever old classic class.
