Ok search proving next to useless and google not really giving me an answer:

I currently have two motor insurance policies and one home insurance policy all with LV and i'm just about to renew one of the motor policies with them for another year. When ticking the box for "legal expenses" it got me wondering whether it is absolutely necessary to include this on all three policies, especially at 3x£25 for the year.

Do I need them all or will one cover me for everything? Can I decline all three and take some kind of cover elsewhere for less than £75 a year?

Motor Legal Expenses can be taken out after an event however Home Legal Expenses cannot. You are best off paying for the Home one saving the £50 for Motor in case you need it down the line. Plus Legal expenses only comes into play if you are involved in a non fault accident so is worth going through a third party as they will then have your best interests at heart and you wont have to pay your excess up front. This is who we use at work. https://www.kindertons.co.uk/membership.asp and wont cost you anything (but dont tell everyone;-))

Claims management company eh - you know, the sort of outfit responsible for perpetuating the culture of backhanders and massively expensive credit hire charges etc etc, which are being paid for by everyone who doesn't have an accident.

That's a first, though - a claims company who want your details even though you haven't had an accident, because they'll be rolling in it if you do, to the cost of everyone else.

Yep the same people that your insurance company are likely to pass your details on to if you are involved in a non fault accident so that they get a back hander. Not saying it is right but just saving the OP money for un-needed cover and stopping the big insurance companies from making any more money off the back of it. Think there is a court case going on now between Markerstudy and Endsleigh http://claimscouncil.org/news/2011/08/03/endsleigh... which shows just how far it goes.
