Private numberplate changeover malarky
Discussion
I bought a car with the private plate on retention, I've had all the paperwork through to go and get the original plate back which is fine, obviously the car needs retaxing so the tax disc matches the new numberplate.
Am I expected to pay again or do they just issue a new tax disc with the new numberplate on it?

Take all your paperwork with you and go moan at your local DVLA office. They should just be able to write you out a tax disc for the new number plate there and then.
The new V5 has been picked up from the previous owner by the Dealer and then forwarded onto me... is it possible the previous owner got a refund on the new tax disc he will have recieved for the old numberplate? I now have an issue.
The dealer is claiming he never said he would send a tax disc through (he did, my dad also understood what he told us to say this)
Upon reading the paperwork again with the car, there is the certificate for the new plates aswell as a letter stating that a new tax disc has been provided for the new plate and that the old tax disc for the plate on retention is now no longer valid and must be destroyed.
When I purchased the car, it had the plates on retention and the matching tax disc on them and was told by the dealer that the tax disc was valid.
The dealer told me the tax disc on the car was valid at time of purchase and I have an email stating this, where do I stand?
Am I left to foot the bill for the tax or can I argue the case with the dealer who has misinformed me and basically sold me a car illegally as it cannot be legally driven on the road at this moment in time as there is no tax. I do not want to get into a massive argument tbh over £150 but if I am completely in the right here then I will argue the case and threaten with trading standards if needs be, As far as I was aware I had been driving legally and it now turns out the dealer has put me in a position where I have been driving illegally.
