just got back from work which today involved catering for the launch of the new range rover evoque.

i was one of 100 people there to see the car before anyone else in the uk!

they had three of them, two five doors and a 3 (which in my opinion is much nicer!)

very well designed and built car, in my mind looks like a cross between a RR sport and a freelander

feel rather priviliged to have been there!

what are your opinions on the car, would you buy one, do you think its a real RR or just a souped up hatchback?!

a cynical marketing ploy, diluting the brand, losing some of the core customer to appeal to vacuous footballer types who love a bit of brand..'Ive got one of those RangeRovers innit, like what Posh drives'..

having said that it will probably be LRs most popular and profitable motor!..

we went to the Singapore launch a few weeks ago ... i really quite liked it, nice build quality and look etc, but teh wife was less than impressed, she felt that it no longer had the "feel" of a range rover (She still rates our old P38 as the best car i have owned) and that it just felt like any other jap soft roader.

The drive was very nice though, we had the 2 liter petrol here and it hustled along quite nicely!

yeah they said they are flying off the shelves!

i do agree with you though, gone are the days of the 3.9 v8 workhorse RRs!

many other companies will see you a 'workhorse' for a lot less, i think RRs market has all changed since they started theRR sport!

Strange that these were launched in the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, would have thought they'd have been launched in Britain first before being launched abroad

I thought so too, there were car transporters full of them near Birmingham on my trip from Heathrow a couple of weeks back.

Saw one at a service station weeks ago, that's a watertight unveiling you went to!

How big are they? Dimensions seem to indicate its VW Tiguan sort of size?

We are in the market for a 4x4 in the US and are looking at X5's, Touerag's, Jeep Cherokee and Cadillac SRX's. Evoque is on our list to look at but it won't be here until October. I have a feeling its really rather tiny in real life?

based on the Freelander so very close to that, although it feels a bit shorter and wider.

Have to say one thing from my spin in it, the interior fit and ergonomics were very good! a very nice place to be

My mate works at halewood and has been building them for the last few months.

I really like them. That said, we own an X3 so that doesn't say much tongue out

It sounds like you're describing the view of the Boxster's launch, and we all know how that story went. smile

Saw a car transporter full of these on the M5 yesterday morning so you may well be one of 1100 people to see it first wink

Looks good though!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but they've not exactly been hiding these recently.

Wish they had been though. They're hideous looking things.

Well if you discount the thousands that have seen them on transporters on the M6 and M62 over the last couple of weeks you are probably right.

Doesn't work for me, but I am sure that will sell by the shedload for the school run.
Proportions look wrong, and it all looks like it is trying too hard to be cool in my opinion.

These were on display (to a few thousand folks!) at the Canary Wharf MotorExpo in June this year. Land Rover have not held back showing this car off at various opportunities and judging by delivery lead times, the Evoque is looking like a runaway sales success.

Me too on the M25, so that'll be one of 1 million people to see it first...
