Wondering if anyone can help...

I have a 2nd car that I was trying to sell but my Auntie (who is British and has a British driving licence) is coming over from Australia where she now lives and worked up to taking retirement recently.

She will be here for approx 3 months and Id like to insure her so she can use my car while she is here. I phoned up Admiral (who I have an existing policy with) and they said they couldn’t insure my auntie as she must be a resident in the UK???

So will I get a similar message from other insurance companies? Can anyone recommend anywhere?

Cheers

I called Admiral, Direct Line and Elepahnt.co.uk and they all said the same thing. As she is not a permanent uk resident we cannot insure her as a policy holder or as a named driver on my policy.

Direct line do ‘temporary cover’ for existing policy holders but I’m with Admiral so no good.

I have been recommended ecar for comprehensive temporary cover. I went online I basically gave all the details: its my car, my policy, but she will be the main driver and that she lives in Aus and has a uk driving licence.

They quoted £135 for a month for us both to be insured which is certainly cheaper than a quote of £360 I had from another short term insurance specialist.
Still works out cheaper than car hire obviously, so I’m going to call them to confirm the quote and make sure she is covered.

Though any other suggestions im still open.

I have Clements. An absolute pleasure do deal with.

They insure the car and not the person, so ANYONE can drive the car.
Don't ask any question regarding driving history etc, as quote is based on vehicle value.
Also, very easy going if anything happens. Paid out 2 claims (not my fault) in less than a week.
