Pic Of The Week: Jaguar C-X16
A spot of Jaguar Frankfurt coupe magic, wallpaper sized...
If you don't yet know about the new Jaguar C-X16, the stunning 'production-concept' coupe that's set to wow Frankfurt showgoers next week then a) where have you been? and b) read all about it in our previous story on the C-X16.
Before you do that of course, do take the time to download our wallpaper of Jaguar's new coupe, and possibly to drool just a little bit.
Then, while you're reading up on the new car, pondering its eight-speed transmission, 3.0-litre supercharged six-cylinder engine and KERS-style hybrid powerboost system, you can also think on the fact that a production version is on the way next year, with prices starting from around £50k. Oh, magnificent loveliness...

As nice as the side profile is, I've got this as my new desktop:
Love this car, and just about everything Jag are doing at the moment. Agreed, though that this is the best angle, IMHO profile is ok, and rear 3/4 is the weakest. Awesome car for 50k though (if it makes it at that price point). If this drives as well as it looks it could be the first Jaguar to be really appealing to the younger driving enthusiast audience.
Excessive weight is a big concern though, Kers, 8speed box and SC engines are not going to be light!!!
The XKRs are very nice, sound terrific and go like poop off a spade, but just not my cup of tea, until I hit 40!!

Was looking round a used (but not very old) XKR the other week, awesome looking machine but just couldnt get out my head the cliche "old man with jag" thing in my head... It really put me off wanting to own one, and unfortunately with this car even though it is mind blowingly beautiful I still have the same opinion... Sorry Jaguar but your reinvented brand imagery hasen't worked on me!

Excessive width is more of a concern than excessive weight, to me. It's over 2m wide!
Surely not, where did you get 2m from?It doesnt look excessively wide, it all looks in proportion like a slightly smaller AM V8.
DIMENSIONS
Length (mm) 4445 (New Porsche 911 is 4491mm**)
Wheelbase (mm) 2622 (New Porsche 911 is 2450mm)
Width (mm) 2048 (New Porsche 911 is 1873mm)
Height (mm) 1323 (New Porsche 911 is 1299mm)
Weight (kg) 1600
I believe that makes it wider than an XJ220 and the same width as a Murcielago.
ETA: The same number seems to crop up all over the internet too. I agree it doesn't look it, though.

Jaguar is indeed re-inventing itself and no longer trying to re-live the glory days of Le-Mans wins from the 50s and 60s. The X-Type died because it aimed the old persons car image at a younger target. The word "Doomed", in the tone of that guy from dad's army, rang around my head when it was launched.
If nothing else I think the XK, XF and XJ as well as the various concepts all show that Jaguar no longer wants to be the brand that only the old would aspire to.
Hats off to Ian Callum and his team for making Jaguar exciting again, and to the Tata management for letting them get away with it?

For ref, AM's quoted dims for the AMV8 are 2022mm (inc. mirrors) or 1866mm (exc. mirrors), so pretty similar.
Anyway, I've just measured my garage doors and either will fit nicely.

Well said, I take my hat off to their new brand imagery and marketing of everything. A bold general statement is all new jags coming off the production line look really good and so much better than stuff of old. Just think ill be waiting a few years till I make the leap from German motors to anything else.If nothing else I think the XK, XF and XJ as well as the various concepts all show that Jaguar no longer wants to be the brand that only the old would aspire to.

The stated 2048mm width will include the mirrors - which do look a bit sticky-outy (but equally foldy).

Do the 911 measurements in the old PH post include or exclude mirrors? I'd hope that they're comparing like with like, but then this is Pistonheads. For ref, AM's quoted dims for the AMV8 are 2022mm (inc. mirrors) or 1866mm (exc. mirrors), so pretty similar.
