RE: Honda And Mugen Reveal 2.2-Litre Type R
Discussion
237bhp is what the 2007+ Type-R (FN2) should've had instead of the paltry 1bhp extra, more weight and crappy rear suspension that it got instead, and this 256bhp 2.2 litre variant is what the original Mugen Civic Type-R should've been.
Sadly Honda don't give a crap about the EU market. They'd never have put up with the FN2 in Japan (and didn't, they got the FD2)

Emissions. 200bhp is about the limit from an NA 2.0 before the penalties for emissions start to make the model too uncompetitive in the marketplace. Hence the Golf et al going turbocharged.Sadly Honda don't give a crap about the EU market. They'd never have put up with the FN2 in Japan (and didn't, they got the FD2)
Honda will either have to join the crowd or look to hybrid power to curb the CO2 and make the power at the same time.
For the time being, if not forever, the days of stratospheric revving NA engines are pretty much dead, with the odd exception.

We made 1 x crank and 12 x pistons - machined from scratch to our specification and design. That's it, that's all the parts there are in existence.
They are not modified anything, or made from anybody else's parts; they are one-offs.
If we build any more engines we will need to get some more made.

How many of the Civic Mugens from the last batch did they sell? I could have sworn when they were announced they said 40 to be built. I saw one parked up in a multistory, wish I had gotten a pic as it's probably the rarest (in terms of number built and on the road) car I've ever seen in person.

Yeah but actually they got both after a couple of years of the FN2 being on sale here. I don't know if the JDM FN2 - called Type-R Euro or words to that effect - had the same state engine as the FD2 or not and cba to google for it. Just wanted to let you know they inded did 'put up with it'.Put in one of these with plenty of comfort built in (sound proofing etc') to enjoy all the time, everyday.

Hmm... will the engine fit in the front of a CR-Z?
Putting the "mental" into "environmentally friendly"... now THAT's a sleeper!
I might even convince SWMBO that I've bought something that helps protect kittens...
Joking here. My girlfriend who owns a 1.4 Golf now understands what the fuss is about when I got her to try a 2 litre turbo. Must be love.
