Looking at getting an X5 in the near future, but was wondering if anyone had any 'real world' mpg figures for the 3.0i, 4.4i, and 3.0D?

The petrol models are becoming so reduculously cheap in comparison to the diesel models, so how bad are they in comparison in terms of MPG?

MAny thanks

Friend with a 54 plate X5 3.0d gets about 25mpg around town and 33mpg on a run.

A friend bought a 3.0i because it was a cracking spec and way cheaper than the 3.0d model (old shape). He was getting 24MPG out of it normally, 26MPG on a run and around town it was a bit shocking (sub 20). Not bad because it was a bit lead footed and its an auto! Went OK but I cant help thinking that the 4.4V8 might be a better petrol bet - OK, worse consumption but that cheeky V8 is a peach....

I understand that the 3.0d isnt waaay better than the 3.0i on fuel. Its on the tax that it makes it up. Oh, and if you can get a decent cruise going, it should do mid to low 30's without a problem. The latest generation X5 is way better, but then again, its also waaay more expensive.

As far as the tax goes, all 55 plates and older are around the £245 mark iirc, irregardless of which engine they have.

I don't know about the MPG but a friend of mine bought a low mileage 05 plate 3.0d late last year and was presented with a £2.5k bill for various turbo and injector related bits in March this year. £2.5k buys quite a bit of unleaded.

I did 20,000 miles in a 4.6iS and averaged 19mpg. About 22mpg on a good run, down to about 17mpg around town. Not too bad really.

I had a couple of old shape 3.0ds. Got about 26mpg overall, over 30mpg on a run. Less around town of course.
