trace owner of private plate

hi hope someone can point me in the right direction
i used to own a private plate that although cheep had meaning too me, when i had to sell the car i let it go too. now i regret that and i am looking to try and trace it with the hope of buying it back. i have looked on askmid and it say its not taxed. although it was fitted to a 2 year old car when i sold it. so can anyone point me in the right direction please
