If you can get a decent Integra for that money do it.

Other options also very good, but Integra is a real class act.

My friend just got one for around that money, stripped it and is now racing it. I drove it recently on track, sublime. No engine modes, no work done to engine apart from an oil change and air filter. Obviously chassis had major upgrades and roll cage etc.

Have had various Honda's myself.

Provided they have had the oil changed regularly and serviced properly, they really do that the reliability reputation for a reason. That VTEC is very strong. Just make sure the brakes and suspension ren't worn out.

You might also get a decent e46 M3 Evo for that money?
You must mean the E36 M3 for the OP's budget.
Ha. Yes, indeed I do. biggrin

I keep an eye on this market, you do occasionally get a clean one within budget. THere is currenly one listed for £4.5k which looks lovely, shame you can't stretch up a bit.

I've only owned a VR6 out of the 3 cars listed and it was a (mostly) wonderful experience. The induction noise with the K&N fitted was worth the price alonecloud9
If you decide to go for a VR6 do make sure that you thoroughly check the water system as they're notoriously unreliable, as i found to my cost. During its stay with me i had to replace a seized water pump (inc tensioner as a precaution) which required my mechanic friend to remove various parts from under the car to enable him to jack up the left side of the engine as the gap between the the bulkhead and pulley is minimal. The local VW dealer told me it was an engine out job and even suggested it'd be worth my while getting the cam chain done while the engine was out, thank god for forums. I also ended up replacing 3 of the hoses as they split too.
Mine was fitted with Eibach springs and Koni adjustables which didnt help the ride on crap roads but the turn in was much improved over the standard ones i drove.
Oh, and they regularly suffer with seized rear brake calipers but thats about it for my negative experiences and when my finances improve i'd definitely have another one as i know what to look for this time!
