What fun car for the winter hack?

When the weather gets so bad I can't take the motorcycle out of the garage, I need a car that will get me to the train station and back (about 15 miles A/B roads)..and hopefully put a smile on my face in the process.
Criteria as follows:
- Must be pretty good in the snow and ice (will also use winter tyres)
- MPG not important
- Reliability is useful (needs to start every day)
- £4k max budget but ideally less
So far I have come up with a Subaru Impreza, is this the best choice?
