Mercedes-Benz Sunday Service - Report

Sunshine, Supercars and Sunday mornings, it must be the latest Sunday Service.

Despite shiny-suited weathermen telling us the weekend was going to be a mixture of heavy rain and gale-force winds, we arrived at Mercedes-Benz World to blue skies and no rain. In fact at times it was actually rather hot (a point proved by Riggers's sunburned head) and those of you who opted to stay in bed missed out on the best MBW SS yet.

We had 700 spaces to fill and around 650-odd on the final list of attendees printed early on Sunday morning, as a result we were able to let a few cars in who weren't on the list and that helped us to fill the site to capacity. Sunny weather and 700 cars? Does it get any better? Well, yes actually...

The range of cars was fantastic, with everything from gorgeous classics like the Jensen Interceptor, to American muscle cars, to the very latest supercars like the Aventador, Rapide and too many Ferraris to mention. Notable highlights were the bright yellow XJ220 which rolled up and took everyone by surprise, the tiny orange Honda(?) that nobody seems to know much about and the brace of TVR Typhons.

The PH team were on the gate as usual and it's nice for us to see so many of you return to our events regularly. We're only sorry that we don't have longer to chat, but at times the view of cars waiting along the driveway was rather daunting and we worked hard to get you all in quickly. Apologies for any delays.

Special thanks to everyone who handed snacks to the PH team as they arrived, we do appreciate your kindness (our dentists may not agree) and we were particularly impressed with Mrs Delboy Vette who got up extra early to ice us a cake to congratulate PistonHeads for winning an award on Friday. Thanks from all of us for being so thoughtful.

Don't forget to e-mail your favourite car of the show to sundayservice@pistonheads.com and we'll send a prize to the winner of the car with the most votes.

Tomorrow we'll announce the next Sunday Service, but for now let's enjoy the images from yesterday, many of which can be seen in our event threads.

Thanks to y2blade for the (pilfered) images, I owe you one!

Thanks also to the team at Mercedes-Benz World for having us, we couldn't have done it without you etc.

Riw upon row of tasty cars, lovely. Would have turned up had I been able to pick up my new car the day before.

Well done to all of the Piston Heads Team and the jolly parking attendants for organising the event! there was a great selection of cars and despite the weather forecast and the 10 mins of rain, we had great weather too!

I did have one of those 'moments' when looking out onto the test track from the first floor of Mercedes Benz World (standing next to Mika's F1 car) to see rain tumblin' down when.... oh! C**P!... I've left the roof down on the SLK!!

This was the first Sunday Service outing I have been to and I cant wait to see where the next event will be held!

ps. Garlick - that TVR of yours sounds positively EVIL!!

700 - that's impressive, must be one of the best attended SS's. And higher attendance than almost any normal Sunday service probably anywhere in the country.

Might be from Mercedes? There was someone shooting video out of the back hatch of one of their M-classes.

That's Clev and I showing some empathy by 'noticing' the adjacent Ferrari. Few did - not often one gets so utterly eclipsed. I wonder if there is Maranello counselling/insurance for that?

Great morning out, great cars, great location, amazing Tescos entrance (!!) and I want an AMG so badly now...

Cheers!

I saw him, looked official with a yellow bib on.

Anyone know what the other guys were doing with what looked like a video camera on a little track?

Not sure i'm a fan of the yellow XJ220, different to the usual silver, but i don't think it does it any favours myself. Where is this unusual orange Honda that's mentioned?
