Hard to tell from the photos but are the wheels on this new Exige the same diameter front and back as on the Europa?
Yep, 17" front, 18" rear, so an inch larger each end than the previous Exige.

Early Europas were 17" front and rear, Europa SE changed that to 17" front, 18" rear.
Also track is wider, new wishbone setup front and rear, new rear subframe.

This is great stuff from Lotus (prices withstanding) and if it is a final swang-song before getting stuck into the newer designs unveiled earlier then what a way to go.

The Exige has been given exactly what it needed and probably more than most would have thought; great stuff. thumbup

The rally special is looking cool too!

I love how taking your ankles off with the splitter before lunching your knees and sending you flying over the top is "pedestrian friendly"! hehe

All terrific news.

Exige S, looks brilliant and should be rather entertaining to drive. Price wise I am really curious where they will place it:
£30-40k would be a bargain for this performance.
£40-50k more likely and still value for performance.
£50-60k Too much for an Exige
Over £60k even more likely given GTE Price

I hope the evora GTE bodywork will carry over onto the 2013 MY Evora S.

I imagine £50-60k, probably closer to £60k would be the likely pricepoint of the Exige.

And I 100% agree, they need to put this bodykit onto the Evora S as soon as possible if they want to start selling any.

Though this is a step in the direction of adulthood, their adolescent behavior cost them (at least) one sale. I had been looking for a lightweight and high-powered mid-engined car for street and track. I took a good look at the Exige but not enough power and didn't want a car that had been EOL'd at the time of purchase.
So I bought a well sorted, pre-built Ultima GTR instead. I am hardly suffering (!), but I really did like the go-kart feel of the Exige and had I known about the Exige S, depending on pricing and availability, I might have stuck with them.
It was obvious that they would have to respond to their own 'Osborning' of their entire car line when they introduced a beautiful but far-fetched collection of semi-vaporous cars that created an enormous time-gap between today and tomorrow. But keeping these cars a surprise for so long has cost them. Cost them sales and respect from aficionados and industry experts who knew that they were playing with vapor and the future of the company. Keeping with the youngster theme, I wouldn't be surprised if these cars were a surprise to the Lotus leadership until quite recently as well; as they came to grips with the nature of the challenge of their future plans.
I always wanted a Lotus (since the launch of the Europa when I was just a kid) but once again, it just didn't work out. At least I bought a (mostly) UK model this time around!
Harrummph!

Some interesting new cars and some sensible positioning in the market at last.

Lotus have had their head well and truly up their arses lately. I still can't forgive them for the Swizzle Beatzzz debacle, or for displaying cars that are the automotive equivalent of vapourware, but this seems like a step to repair some of the damage.

At one stage it seemed as if the company was being run by a 17 year old. Maybe some of the people in Hethel who know what they are doing got the chance to shine this time.

Thank. God.For.That.

Having burned their way through a reported £25M or was it £26 million to present the 6 designs at Paris last year I am not surprised they have cooled it for the Frankfurt Show!

I'm not sure that's a fair reading of what's been going on. The Exige was killed by the EOL of it's power plant, and even without the ambitious new line up I doubt they would have had anything more to show last year. It'd be interesting to find out how much the new model shares with the Evora - if it's as much as some have suggested there was no way Lotus could have got it out much earlier.

New cars and models are always a surprise at Lotus. It's not very reasonable to complain in one breath that they've pre-announced 'vapour' and in the next breath complain that they didn't pre-announce the Exige replacement over a year before it would be available.

So is all the extra weight of the new Exige over the rear of the car?

Shame to see the roof scoop gone.

Wish they had of done the old shape Exige with the new supercharged Elise engine and then this new shape for the V6 Exige and had them as two different models.

No the weight is me thinks between the wheels, also thats why the wheelbase got bigger.

The roof scoop I think would only be good for extra drag and no uses since it has no cooler there and now a better cw roof end a way better view in your rear mirror...

love it.

From what I know they have got the weight distribution spot on with the new Exige, and to tell the truth that really makes a sports car when it comes to on limit balance.

As you have all said, very exciting.

I think the statement 'Lotus won the WRC in 1981' is a bit like saying Ford won the F1 World Championship in 1979!
Talbot won the Rally Championship using a Lotus engine,Lotus the F1 championship using a Cosworth Ford engine.
