This concept has taken an unfortunately 'lifestyle' oriented slant but you could read a thought process of modularity from it. It implies that a model with no roof is on the cards, which might imply the roof is non structural like the original. It also explicitly says 'load bed', which without all the tarty crap means pickup or van variants like the original.
Agree.

Elsewhere (carsuk.net) it has been said...

"Is the DC100 a serious production intent for Land Rover? Well, probably, but not with quite the number of ‘Concept-y’ features the CD100 concept has. It’s probably the price Land Rover need to pay to make the new Defender profitable . And that’s no bad thing. The DC100 Concept looks funky and cool and should lead the Defender to a new, urban and much younger audience. That will allow Land Rover to make the proper, grown-up Defender to tackle the UN tours, jungles in Africa and the outback in Australia. Just as long as it can be relied on. But the DC100 Sport – just like the DC100 itself – are just pointers towards the new Defender, a Defender that will be built and will arrive by 2015. At the moment Land Rover are apparently experimenting with two platforms for the new Defender."

Another picture to give an idea of size:

I wonder, does that mean pimp and proper versions with their own chassis, or long and short wheelbase?

This is also the SWB version, I'd imagine LWB concepts will come too. What is underneath, what it's made and wether there is any modularity are the things that will be of most interest to me.

Giant lotus Elise style alu chassis?
Steel disco based chassis?
Plastic panels, steel?
Soft, hard tops?

All quite exciting to think about (for me).

I just can't get over the non-boxy front end. I know they probably have to do this for aerodynamic/MPG figures, but it just looks so similar to the Mitsubishi Montero/Pajero from a few years back. Nothing about it says "Land Rover", and certainly not "Defender".

Hopefully, by the time they get the production version ready, it'll be sorted.

^^ As the above poster stated, I am interested in what sort of chassis tech/equipment it will have to make it go well off-road. If they get it right, it could very well be the perfect vehicle to challenge the Jeep Wrangler's status as ultimate off-roader.

Well done! What are your thoughts on it? What was it built on chassis wise?

Now that's nifty without being "Barbie"-ish. Except there's nothing rugged in anyway about the Soul. It would be fairly light by today's standards...

This is how to do it without destroying your iconics. 'bout the only thing Chrysler has going right now. Not shown in this pic. is the sloped but still pure Jeep.

ET apologize for little bitty picture, but plenty of other are just a Google away.

It's sad that the Defender will go in 4 years time, but it's not like Landrover have any choice. The reason it's going is because of it's crash protection, and it's nothing a facelift can do.

Now i've seen some more dynamic pictures of it, i can imagine it very easily as a double cab pickup, if they do one then launch will be around the time i shall be changing my L200.

It should be an opportunity to replace it with something better in every aspect, not some one-trick toy car for vacuous townies.

Let's hope someone at Tata understands that.

If it (the DC100) is as comfortable and easy to drive, with a comparable pickup bed as my L200 (and its reliablilty) then I'll buy one. Because its a Land Rover.

Let's not forget that this 'Alan Carr' version was launched in glitzy Frankfurt - I'm sure the macho 'Bear Grylls' version would be more appropriate at some middle-eastern arms fair.

Actually I'm not sure who has the bigger pink following, but there you go.

I'm confused. LR already have a 'fashionable' model in the form of the Evoque and it's (presumably) later adaptations.

Why do they then try the same idea with a model previously in another market - i.e. the abuse it and repair it with a hammer market?

Granted changes have to be made to comply with various legislation but dumping a practical workhorse seems short-sighted. Even if the market is being eaten up by rivals doesn't it make sense to try to get some of it back rather than give up?

confused

The only hope is that there will be two versions of the new Defender - the Barbie version and the workhorse version (as Cotic says).

Shame on you Land Rover

No, no, no, no, no, this is wrong, it should be illegal. Its molestation!!!!!

Will someone please get rid of this new "styling" team that has been employed. JLR have one of the most recognisable vehicles in the world. It works, dont fix it. They have the other brands (which in my opinion have been ruined recently) for the sloans.

Pray tell, where does one put a mucky sheep, dead calf, fence posts, logs, bales etc in this pumped up Yeti? It seems that there is no real interest in serving the communities that have supported the brand for the last 60 years!

On a personal note, if I wanted to drive something like this, I would start with a corsa/saxo and mod it till it looked crap!
You really do have you head stuck in the sand don't you.

Touch harsh considering you dont know me!
