Why don't they fit it with a manual instead of an auto?
Because Mercedes' manual boxes are utterly st and ever have been. Their recent TC autos however have been excellent. Well done to them for retaining the borderline anachronism that is a large capacity V8 and keeping it NA.
Although I do wonder if that means they could have shoe-horned in the outgoing NA 6.2.
I'm seriously thinking of chopping my C63 estate in for one. Just waiting for the reviews (and the test drive of course!). My family all hate the C63 anyway because of the rock hard ride and it's only me in it going to work 90% of the time so I figured I might as well chop it in for a boring MPV family appliance and a 2 seater roadster for myself!
I'm just addicted to the AMG sound and huge torque so if the slk offers all that in 2 seater guise I'm sold. I did have misgivings about the gearbox but at the PH sunday service just gone I took a C63 round a lap completely sideways in 'comfort' mode on the gearbox. The slk has the same gearbox as on the C63 so I don't care anymore.
I know it won't handle exactly like a Boxster but hearing that AMG V8 on the stelvio pass is bloody worth it...

I bet this is still with permanent traction control.
No, the traction control will be able to to be fully disabled. The C63, E63 and CLS63 (latest generations, not the old ones) are all set up like this. AMG have totally changed their philosophy recently, obviously because they were behind BMW and Porsche in the 'evo' respect stakes. Bmw still have the more 'hardcore' machines but overall I think AMG has a more exciting range of cars...obviously because they keep sticking that fantastic sounding V8 in every one of them! bobberz said:
I'd love a go in that! AMG V8s always sound biblical, and it no longer looks like such a girls' car.
I don't mind slush boxes, either, since much of my driving is in urban/heavy traffic areas where a manual is more of an annoyance than a pleasure.
How can something sound "biblical"? I don't mind slush boxes, either, since much of my driving is in urban/heavy traffic areas where a manual is more of an annoyance than a pleasure.
