I have not driven a 'modern' 911. The last 911 I drove was back in 1982/3. However, since then I have seen a few high spec ones in the local hedgerows particularly when a long dry spell suddenly ends with a light shower. I am convinced the pendulum effect is alive and ... er, well ...;)

I've also watched track events involving these cars and observed similar 'interesting' antics.

So, all things considered, my view of 911 is simply that they are not for me. However, I would dearly love to have a Panamera but, could never justify that level of outlay for my daily driver which have a hard life.
.
So, you must be aware that the 911 has enjoyed a great deal of racing success, since it's launch. The pendulum effect must not have been a major issue, despite whatever on track antics you may have seen. Just to add to the anecdotal Porsche crashing evidence; I've been up to a rather high speed in a 996 turbo s, driven by a novice, and we managed to stay out of any hedges.

Exactly.

And I would also like to add - I've never seen a 911 in the hedgerows - nor has my 911 ever been close. My old AMG however... different story!

Ahah, but I have so you really must try harder ... hehe

Plus, it must be said that Herr F. Porsche has admitted "looking over the shoulder" of the chap who designed this elegant old beauty when he first set out to draw up the design of the first Beetles:~

Nothing new under the sun :~

Zo, for all those that admire the 911 in all it's reincarnations, you really do not have Herr Porsche to thank, but, a certain Austrian Hans Ledwinka for the original "heavy ar5ed" concept power train... hehe

Not many people know that. smile

I believe a certain Herr Hitler put the block on Tatra concept progression except as sometime later, the People's Car "Beetle" appeared and the rest thereafter is as they say; is.....

Here's some more heavy-ar5ed elegance Tatra style ... :~

Hans up all those that believed Porsche's design was his original thinking..

Hmmm ... that many ... wink

Nb. Heavy-ar5ed is the new black with many modern car style designs to my old eyes. Without elegance.

.. frown

I have just seen the next facelift of all the 911 variants and all the Boxster variants being tested in Utah all sporting the same Californian number plate. The 911's looked more or less the same - front slighty different but rear did look a bit fatter. The Boxsters looked stunning though, at first I thought they were modified cars out on a run it was only when I parked up to take a look I saw they were disguised with duct tape and bits stuck over them and all had the same plates and telemetry equipment taped all over them. Have to say great place for testing the cars the canyons roads in the area are amazing, for this bit of the US the straight road thing is a total myth.
