RE: Frankfurt: Maserati SUV

It's had the good grace to fit its own V8, which amusingly delivers similar power to the 470hp 6.4-litre SRT despite displacing three-quarters as much.
The Maser V8 will probably have 3/4 of the torque of the Hemi as well. I know which engine I'd rather have powering my 2-ton SUV. Hint - it doesn't come from a prancing horse lineage. My two cents - like the Cayenne this will be hit maybe not by true gearheads but then again we are not their true target. Personally being a purist when it comes to 4x4's this is sacrilege but that being said there is tremendous brand value and if it helps them to build a couple low volume halo model sports cars fine. I am sure that well heeled soccer moms to rappers (thank your stars that their are no rappers in either the UK or EU) will be lining up for this just as they did for the tacky Hummer H2. If it creates a baby Maserati 2 seater with the stunning Ferrari v-8 that's fine. Porsche saw very little brand dilution with their Cayenne and sells boatloads of them. The typical buyer of this car would never even sully her high heels in a jeep dealership. I am also glad that this will be made in Michigan as we need a lot of domestic jobs here. It is a business after all but this car is not my cup of tea

Looks a bit Korean.
That's a bit harsh, the original Kubang from 2003 looks Korean:This one is at least Japanese.
Anyway a trident and a gold clock on the dash should sell a few, just hope they don't go down the diesel hybrid route like stuttgart

The new car will be based on the same mechanical package as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the two cars will reportedly be assembled together in Detroit.
Maserati’s first SUV, the Kubang has been signed off as part of Maserati CEO Sergio Marchionne’s drive to dramatic increase the brand’s total production to around the 50,000 mark. It will go on sale next year powered by both a version of Maserati’s 4.7-litre V8 – meaning that a Ferrari-derived engine has found its way into an SUV – and a 3-litre V6 diesel version in Europe.

So.....Maserati can make ugly cars too.
What a pity isn't it.I love most Maseratis, apart from the Biturbo perhaps...
But his is not good looking, especially the head- AND tail-lights,
as HIDEOUS as on every new car that comes out today!
The Cayenne, the Panamera, and now this Kubang, are all stoggy and bland shaped.
Sort of melting plastic, not virile or sporty or elegant, just DULL.
You don't have to make (well buy in) daft/ugly looking SUV's to make good cars and to stay in business, never mind the fact that an SUV has no place in Maser's past & current product range. Who next Morgan? I'm sure they could buy in a 4x4 Suzuki or such like and do their thing with it. I don't see Ferrari, RR, Lotus, Lambo (LM dead & gone) & Jag offering SUV's (yet!).
What I see here with Maser is that they're not making money or their sales success over the last several years has gone to their heads, thus the wish to expand their product range and this SUV is a nasty & cheap opportunity with Fiat say so. Reminds me of Aston with the Toyota & the Lagonda SUV thing.
Shame, Maser doesn't spend it's time getting a few bob from Fiat & developing a new class of car to add to it's line up rather than this SUV.
All imo of course, but I consider it somewhat a sell out of heritage, that goes for Porsche too.
