BMW everytime.

Just look at all the M cars. The Audi RS versions just dont (don't) have the same passion. True I would have an R8 everyday of the week.

I think Audis are a bit overpriced to be honest. I remember driving a boxfresh A6 at work and thought it was a crock of st,(.)(F) fastforward to driving a pretty basic 3 series tourer and the BM was in a different league.

It all comes down to what you like personally. I just think their (there) are more desirable Beamers (Bimmers) than Audis.
That's right

I drive an Audi.
Edited for precision.

It has to be Audi. From talking to a leading BMW dealership manager, its BMW that are constantly trying to keep up with audi. From point to point on an average english day, with average english weather, Not alot can match a RS audi.

Well done, you.
Yes,I know.
So we can add smugly executed spelling gestapo to the list of typical Audi antisocial personality traits then. Gotcha.

Judge cars on the model not the marque. Not all BMW/Audi's are good. Just like not all the people in your family have good taste in cars.

Your dads choices in cars are excellent. Yours on the other hand made me wanna puke.

To be fair though, car choice is pretty limited at 20years old.

Constantly trying to keep up in what respect? It's Audi who are consistently behind in terms of model evolution. In the time since the launch of the current generation Audi A3, BMW introduced and discontinued the 1 Series, replacing it with a new version entirely. Audi have only just 'caught up' with the 5 Series and they released a true E90 rival (Rather than the facelifted E46 rival they had before) some 3 years after the E90 first appeared!

In the respect that they are worried about audi buying them out and that its BMW who are developing models with audi firmly in mind. When the B7 RS4 arrived BMW only had the E46 m3. and we all know that was no contest so along came the E90 M3 which could compete.

What?

Why wouldn't they? Audi are the main competition. They design models with Mercedes and Jaguar in mind as well. Its what you do in business. Why do you think Ford design models with Vauxhall in mind?

No contest, of course, the M3 was known for being a terrible drivers car..

I don't think anyone with their petrolhead on would ever seriously state that any M3 incarnation was not a drivers car and exceptionally good. I agree however, that the RS4 was indeed brought out during the production of the E46, and BMW had to respond with the E90.

In terms of no contest, that's a bit OTT, I'm sure in the right hands the E46 would give the RS4 a run for it's money on the twisty bits, but the RS4 was seen as moving the game on a bit from the E46.

BMW introduced the E90 because the E46 came to the end of its 7 year old model cycle. By the time the E90 M3 was released the RS4 was no longer a threat as production was ending!

ok, serious question: as a non-audi person and not having that much knowledge about their product specs, can anyone map the equivalent audi models onto the m3s in e30, e36, e46 and onwards please?

genuine question, no pisstaking.

Of course the RS4 was a threat because if it was seen as the better car why would people settle for less in their minds? this forced BMW's hand to release the E90. With the more modern technology and V8 engine the RS4 was seen as a league above the E46 and BMW had nothing to compete with it so it had to release the new model didn't it?

In a word, bks

It strikes me that you are getting confused with your model numbers and what they refer to. E90 refers to the whole of the 3-series range, not just the M-models. Do you seriously think that all those guys at Munich suddenly thought 'fk me, that RS4 that sells a few thousand a year is pretty good, we'd better wheel out a whole new range of cars from the 316 to the 335 in case people stop buying them because they've seen an RS4'??

The RS4 is only a small part of a large range of cars, yes it is a halo model but the big money is made on the bread and butter 2.0TDi models. If Audi were beating BMW on these then BM may be a little concerned, but given that the 320Ed etc trounce the A4 I doubt they care too much.

As said above, the E46 was replaced pure and simply because it was getting to the end of its 7 year model cycle. Nothing to do with the RS4.

It's a forum. Not an exam. I guess all you Audi drivers have all got 1st class degrees from Oxford?
