Man this is only 5 minutes from my house. Just as well I don't get paid for another 2 weeks.

How good would this sound with an induction kit, that V8 sound would be music to my ears although I would need to tow a petrol tanker behind me lol

Always had a soft spot for these A8's, the only Audi I really like. But this one ain't for of me.

If a steel car is ~£145 a ton, what must aluminium be? Assume £300, and its about 2 tons - £600 to weigh it in?

You cant really go wrong if £600 is the worst case scenario. I've been looking at S8s, but finding them cheap is hard because the gearboxes are weak and when they go, owners just scrap them (rather than spend 3-4k on a new or reconditioned gearbox).

A lot of car for the cash.

I do like the look and spec of these cars.

I nerly purchased one for £2995 back in 2005. It was an early 'M' registration, but fully loaded.

Can't believe they have gone so cheap now.

Impeccable build quality, superb engines.

I would have had that, but I'm off on holiday next week, and it's about 400 miles from me!

Damn it!

I remember the press pack for this came in a nice aluminium cover and must have cost the entire profit on the first 1000 cars to produce.
I remember reading or hearing (I have no idea where) years ago that these D2 A8s were sold at a loss, so keen was Audi to get a foothold in the exec barge market. No idea how true this is.

Would not go near it after reading (or attempting to read) the first couple of lines of the advert.

If you can not spell either use a spell checker or ask someone who can spell to check it for you.
True - but sometimes, you can use this to your advantage and end up with a true bargain!

People don't always know what they have and / or what it is worth, usually apparent the way an advert is presented.

They eat gearboxes unfortunately.

Great timing for sotw since I was only yesterday looking at an a8 replacement for the now departed s600. Never owned an audi.....yet.

Looks fresh enough, though the sagging on the drivers seat suggests it may have been a popular car.

Advert isn't the best mind
To be fair to the vendor - and skipping over the spelling for a moment - this is by far the best advert for an A8 of this vintage. The rest are a tale of what not to do, and how not to mention the good bit's that you've yet to fcensoredk up. Unless you fancy a 2.8 with wheels prised of an Audi A6 (or better still some aftermarket jobys...), this is your lot. And it's a V8, which can "hopefully" mange a fair-old mileage.

Aluminium alloy is trading at 2300USD/ton on the LME, primary @ 2376. You can probably get 60/70p a kilo if you scrap it.

How many kilos of that 1750 is alluminium?? 200/300? Not a bad trade, but we are near a 4 year peak in prices (taking FX into account)...so chop it in quickly

Just over??!!

It's nearly 3 times the price!

But yes - even they now represent staggering value for money. (Ronin?!)

You could be correct. But one man's loss is another man's fiddling the books, wooden dollars and all.

They generally don't though mate, as they are screwed together properly.

And for this sort of cash, most cars you get could potentially go wrong...

Aye, but as people have said - think of the scrap value a a safety net...

Many feel that a lot of the 90's wouldn't have been profitable for Audi except the costs for engineering were buried in the whole VW platform structure costings, so it looked OK. Hence the amazing quality interiors were possible, which BMW couldn't do cos they had a much smaller number of vehicles to recoup the engineering costs over and they weren't willing to sacrifice engineering so the interior had to be cost cut. Buying in bulk is always cheaper.
