Man this is only 5 minutes from my house. Just as well I don't get paid for another 2 weeks.

How good would this sound with an induction kit, that V8 sound would be music to my ears although I would need to tow a petrol tanker behind me lol
It would prob be cheaper to run than the equivalent 7 Series or S Class, due to it being aluminium...

I reckon you'd be better of with either the 3.7 or 4.2, as the fuel difference would not be that much

They generally don't though mate, as they are screwed together properly.

And for this sort of cash, most cars you get could potentially go wrong...
Hexsqueeze me? They generally do laugh

Gearboxes aren't great, grand to do the cambelt/water pump/thermostat and general maintenance for the complicated suspension and electrics can run up four figure bills far too easily.

They eat gearboxes unfortunately.

Great timing for sotw since I was only yesterday looking at an a8 replacement for the now departed s600. Never owned an audi.....yet.

97 could be either box. The earlier 4-speeders are less chocolately than the delicate later 5sp, apparently.

That is the only reason I haven't had one of these myself. Mind you, there must be plenty of breakers about nowadays...

Terrific shed. It ONLY makes sense to buy one of these at shed money imo. If it can't be fixed cheap, it's not the end of the world to weigh it in.

I want to buy this, stick the engine in a Mk1 MR2, and weigh in that pricey aluminium shell.
Well, have you done this yet?

We've a couple of customers with older S8s that spend a fortune to stay on top of the maintenance. One just recently he'd had enough with it and despite the wedges he'd spent staying on top of general repairs took us another 2k to make it right before it could go on the forecourt.

Lovely things but nobody will tell you they're cheap to run.

Had one of this vintage

gearbox - 2.5 K for a rebuild - 5 speeders are made of warm chocolate

small water leak - by time I'd replaced water pump(which involves cam belt and some other bits ) and tracked it to a 2" plastic pipe between the block and the oil cooler unit it was > 1200 quid

TPS went intermitent, most garages were scared silly of it and were telling me it was the ECU/Alarm/immobilisor and it would be better to scrap it as it would cost more in time and parts to trace the issue, luckily I had invested in a VAG com and was prepared to risk the price of a TPS.

add in a few other minor issues within the 12 months I owned it and it stands head and shoulders tall as the worst buy I have ever made. The A8 forums were full of people constantly having issues I found out after purchase....

Lovely thing when working but not as well screwed together as people would believe.

consider thsi one a buya nd run till it breaks then break it and you should be OK.

Bet you would change your mind after hearing & experiencing it. I had a V6 Hyundai coupe with a nice piper cross kit. When driving normally it was very quiet but once you touch the accelerator a bit harder the grunt was lovely and I'm no boy racer.

I would imagine the V8 lump in the Audi sounds even better. There are obviously benefits to fitting one too and I don't mean the mediocre performance gains. It helps the engine breath better and will actually improve the MPG as I noticed when I returned my coupe back to stock.

Not for me. The A8 would always be my 4th choice of luxury car because they are so bland. I would rather have a Jaguar Sovereign, a BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S Class. The Jaguar sounds to be significantly cheaper to run too.

They can ALL be moneypits. There is only one relatively safe bargain barge buy.
