RE: SOTW: Audi A8
Discussion
I've always desired one of these since watching Rob De Niros 'Ronin' film years ago.
"Larry, tell Vincent what you'll need.
Something very fast. Audi S8, Something that can shove.
l'm going to have it for you by the afternoon.
l'll also need a nitrous system. l've got the specs."
Fantastic car with loads of shove & comfort in buckets!

Love it
I imagine lots of expensive things can go wrong on them, though
Ones with 'sports' (ie. lowered) suspension are best avoided. Catalytic converters are vulnerable and easily damaged.I imagine lots of expensive things can go wrong on them, though
Also watch for ones that have filled with water as a result of the plenum drains blocking.....

How good would this sound with an induction kit
Just...... no. No no no no no.I would imagine the V8 lump in the Audi sounds even better. There are obviously benefits to fitting one too and I don't mean the mediocre performance gains. It helps the engine breath better and will actually improve the MPG as I noticed when I returned my coupe back to stock.
It's meant to be quiet, powerful, restrained, understated etc.
There are more "appropriate" cars to start chavving up.
buy it
hoon it until it breaks then strip it and sell...I did
people pay silly money for these bits as Audi charge the earth for them over the counter

Hmmm I must try the Mercedes 'Has Class' not come across this one....
oooh... a Freudian typo - that's a new one on me... It must be something to do with Mercs, as I had to pull Garlick up on his Merc designations once as well!

There is only one relatively safe bargain barge buy.
Yep, you're right about LS's. And was a tad unlucky. The LS400 forums are mostly devoid of any problems.

Eh!? I assume that was tongue in cheek and you've seen the problems Garlick's had with his?
No not at all tongue 'n cheek. Had two of them. Garlick's, some worn suspension & wh.bearings all longterm service items so no big deal unless those parts only wear out on LS's. Johnboy Mac said:

Yep, you're right about LS's. Then again it's only done 60K and spends most of it's time in a nice dry garage with a cover on and plenty of polish; a Skoda Fabia doing day to day driving. The Jag's only ever used on long journeys in nice weather so we're not talking about a car that's had a hard life. It was bought as a substitute for the much loved Princess but the size counts against it on country lanes.

I think the point is that it's not that kinda car.

I wouldn't say fitting an induction kit is chaving it up!!It's meant to be quiet, powerful, restrained, understated etc.

If I had advised fitting chrome or massive wheels, tinting the windows and fitting a stainless steel exhaust system then I would agree. At the end of the day its a matter of personal opinion & taste.

Gearboxes aren't great, grand to do the cambelt/water pump/thermostat and general maintenance for the complicated suspension and electrics can run up four figure bills far too easily.
These have cam belts? Not chain driven?! Gearboxes aren't great, grand to do the cambelt/water pump/thermostat and general maintenance for the complicated suspension and electrics can run up four figure bills far too easily.
Fair dues - i'll stick with my W140 - now that thing IS properly put together.

An induction kit fits in that mod list perfectly, i'm afraid. If I had advised fitting chrome or massive wheels, tinting the windows and fitting a stainless steel exhaust system then I would agree. At the end of the day its a matter of personal opinion & taste.
